GROUP BUY: Gauge Panel
Update. Here is what I sent to Steve via email. I think sending him the stock radio mounting brackets would be a great idea so he can get the tabs perfect. I should have thought of it before.
Ok, here's the word.
180mm wide for the DIN
53mm tall for the DIN
I also have a great idea. I have the stock mounting brackets for the radio. I mounted them backwards to get a better feeling for the measurements, which is how I got the 180mm for the width of the DIN. I'm thinking sending you the mounting brackets would be a great idea for you to get the design nailed down. Sure it would take 2 extra days to get to you, but it might help. Let me know and I'll send them out tomorrow. Also, the mounting tabs might have to be offset from the middle of the panel. Here is what I mean.
When I mounted the stock brackets backwards, they stick out through the DIN perfectly. The bottom of the bracket was right up against the bottom of the DIN opening. The brackets themselves are 50mm tall, yet the DIN is 53mm tall. So the mounting tabs need to be offset.

good question. It depends on the bezel ..
Sorry for the disappearing act. I was out of town for the weekend Friday-Sunday night. I sent the radio brackets to Steve yesterday, so he should get them on Wednesday. PGMike, to set your mine at ease. If you check out earlier in the post there are pictures of a CNC machined panel, and it's ground right to the edge. That's the way this panel will be. You take a 60mm panel, cut 52mm holes in it, and bend it right at the edge of the hole and you have a 53mm panel with 52mm holes.
Updizzate. Here's the latest from Steve.
Jason,
I submitted the request for the part with the final modified drawing today. I requested that the prototype be completed by 11/30. It is going to be done in the finish brushed material so that the no additional finishing is required and any pictures of it will look good. Prototype will end up having a total cost with drafting and so forth for me of about 340-400 dollars at this point. So lets just say I'm really crossing my fingers that people buy these!
I'll let you know as soon as I have the part or hear anything from the shop.
Thanks!
Steve
