Ya, was gonna say super clean and then I see all that brake dust still on the edges of the caliper haha. Did you actually paint the top of your radiator....
Nope of course not. Just OE brushed AL from Koyo Rad.
Haven't touched the car in weeks if not months. But slowly figuring out the new (smaller) garage. Finally put decent oil in it and installed my oil pressure sending unit and temp sensor. Will try and get gauges done in the near term. Also just cruising around my new hood, im still adjusting to the hills. Compared to flat Chicago, there is significant elevation change on the streets in MO.
Well instead of wrapping up gauges I decided to chase a lifter tick. Scooped up GSC no ticks only because im not paying almost a grand for OEM. In so doing I think im gonna need to replace a few rockers... found a few chewed up at the valve side...
On the bright side I gave Dallas a deposit on his standard length front control arms to solve my interference issues at rear of the wheel well and pickup some caster in the process. Also a set of his 1.5" rear uprights.
Finally got the GSC Zerotick lifters and 5 new rockers installed. Bled them down completely so they would just be on internal spring pressure. Primed the motor a bit and ran it. Just drove to work and she sounds and feels great. Have another 20mile highway drive home so we'll see how they sound again tomorrow.
Had to use the tool for the spings on the on the opposite side of what the directions indicate because the lobes on the S2 are wide and I could not fit the tool between the cam cap and lobe. Also had to use some creative leverage against the cam where there arent lobes obviously but they're in. Did it all without pulling the cams since the HLAs could be compressed by hand I was able to get the rockers installed. Did have to loosen the intake cam though to get most of that side in.
Well I'm impressed with these lifters. They sound fantastic. I've cured my tick with these and some new rockers. The car has never felt or handled better. Nice cool 60 degree days and the engine loves it too. Gotta burn off this tank of E85 and throw some pump gas in it for the winters hibernation. Cant wait to get the rest of Dallas's bits put in, finish gauges, the wing and splitter too.
The only 2 other things I want to do to this car are a cage and a drysump. Then it'll be "complete" as far as I'm concerned.
Idle video from today with the cam gear cover back on. And a couple pics from when I arrived at the office.
Drysump is kinda a put it in and forget about it thing. Can go on anytime. Same for slicks.
A dry sump is really not a set it and forget it type of thing. They add a ton of complexity to the oiling system. You have an external reservoir, changing oil is a huge pain. The oil capacity is so high you'll struggle to get oil temps to a reasonable temp even with a good outlap. The scavenge side of the pump will pull in as much air as it does oil so if you don't set the tank properly or you use a poor tank you'll still have crappy pressure or aeration issues which you won't even see on a pressure gauge. There's like an additional 20 places to leak oil from. The pumps don't live a very long life, so regular service is an almost guaranteed prerequisite. You have an extra belt and pulleys that have to be checked on a regular basis otherwise you risk losing the motor. You have to redo a good chunk of how the crankcase is ventilated because most pumps can create enough vacuum to damage seals.
Dry sumps are just one of those things that don't make sense unless you're at the extreme pointy end of performance.
Yeah I gave it some thought and you're right. Shoot i haven't even validated the extra steps I took with a wet sump.
However this car is not going anywhere, and one day Ill have enough free time to use this car properly. And I'm gonna run out of things to do to it lol. One day it will be dry sump.
Also I decided wisely to not buy an early evo to play with. Was hard to put my big boy pants on.
I like the idea of slicks because I believe 275 30 is more common and it'll free up some room in the wheel wells. But im not ready for slicks, and then the car is truly not a street car with them. All though I guess I could and should get a 2nd set of wheels.
