Basic mods for a newbie
So I've had an '08 X for about 5 years but have been overseas and really haven't had a chance to drive or tune it. I'm living in CA and have almost no experience with cars (aside from oil changes). I figured I'd log my (minor) changes to the X.
Right now it's got an AMS intercooler, AEM wideband, AMS turbo back, GS 3 port, and an AMS FMIC. I'm dealing with some electrical issues stemming from the last owner tapping the spare AWC switch to power the wideband, but once that's done I'm planning on some basic mods.
It's an 08 GSR so there are a few preventative mods that need to get done.
1) The fuel pump relay. - Ordered the part, I'm pretty sure I can handle this one without adult supervision
2) Diff pins - Sheptrans says you really only need to upgrade the pins and they sell them for $80, but I live in SF and don't have a garage so I have to pay $30/hr to work on my car at a diy shop in San Jose. That means Diff pins are going to cost around $450 and taking the trans out seems like a serious undertaking.
3) Front brake hats. I'm not driving hard right now - but these need to get done before I try any HPDE.
The first fun mod I'm planning is switching to Flex Fuel. This old post from goofygrin was really helpful. It seems like the Asnu 320 uses the stock fuel pump housing so I get to keep the stock fuel filter. Razorlab's build thread was really informative, especially the part where he custom builds an in line fuel filter.
So parts for Flex Fuel:
Asnu 320
Evo 8/9 Sock
ID1300 (I'm preparing for a GTX3076R at some point)
Blueflex Flex Fuel kit
Razorlab's inline fuel filter mod
I've already got an openport and Tephramod v3.
Now I just have to see if I can hold off until Memorial Day for those sweet discounts.

Flex fuel is a great route. Intake, UICP, maybe a BOV. The stock one seems to leak on cars here and there. Others have run great with it while other it's leaked. I just say fix the potential issue since you'd have to upgrade it later anyways. Good luck with your build.

So, it turns out the part I ordered that I thought was the Evo 9 Sock is not a sock. You can't buy the 8/9 sock w/o ordering a replacement pump, so I went with the GM fuel sock PN 92220509. Sway bar end links came in today. I'm just waiting for the intercooler pipes from AMS before I get some time at the hobby shop to put it all in.
