Now we're talking! Looking good Austin, maybe we can meet up for some track day hoon next fall. Starting to sound like we'll both be in a position with our Evos to facilitate it.

Oh yes absolutely! NCM is the only track that's really between us and I absolutely don't think my car will pass their 105dB sound limit there unless I can get creative. But I can always bring the Civic or another track may line up better with our schedules.

Meh wouldn't bother me to head up to Gingerman or RA, Autobahn. Or if you want to head this way and try out the Ozarks International Raceway. In any case its sure to be a great time.

I'm always open for Gingerman or ABCC, just need to do it on a weekend since they'll be 12 hour drives for me. I definitely want to try Ozarks, I keep hearing great things about it but I'm waiting for an event there that makes sense for me since it's a 14 hour drive
I picked up these old carbon bars from a Nascar auction recently and decided I could make strut bars out of them. Total assembly weight is 2lbs vs the stock bar's 7lbs and makes working on the rear of the engine bay way easier since it can be removed with just the two bolts. Pretty pleased with how it came out. If anyone is interested in one I have 5 to sell so shoot me a message.
95% done with my custom rear sway bar. Designed some custom mounts that Dallas machined. Speedway bar and arms. Rough calculator math says spring rate adjustment range should be 300-500ish lbs/in. 1.25" bar with 0.25" wall thickness can go up or down in thickness if I need more or less rate. Just need to drill the holes in the arms for the endlinks and it'll be done. A bit porky at ~16lbs but it's about as low and rearward as can be so I don't mind. Still unsure if the two bolts in the subframe will be enough to handle the load but only one way to find out really.
Been a minute since I've updated. Car is hiding in storage again, which kind of sucks but that's life. Biggest (expense) hurdle is getting the gearbox setup figured out. Going to chuck in the PAR 3rd and 4th straight cut gears so I don't have to worry about a trans failure, just trying to decide what I want to do for 5th. This may not seem straightforward but here we go.
At the moment I have the following variables to consider:
Tire diameter: Will either be a 285/30/18 (24.7") or a 255/35/18 (25")
Redline: Likely 8000 since I think the UHF SS Green won't have much to give past that
Track usage: Most of the tracks I frequent are smaller local tracks where there aren't massive straights, 120-140mph is pretty normal max speed. I don't go to a ton of GP esque tracks but will be going to Road America so I don't want to shoot myself in the foot with too short of gearing but the stock Evo 8 5th (0.725 ratio) I have is just too long for the majority of tracks.
My 5th gear choices being the following:
Stock Evo 9 = 0.761 ratio
JDM = 0.825 ratio (if I can find one)
PAR = Custom ratio
I do like how the gear spacing with the Evo 9 5th looks. I think I'd only go with the PAR if I decide I want shorter than E9 and can't find a JDM gears. I haven't seen guys breaking stock 5th gears so I don't have strength concerns like 3rd and 4th.
And here's what all of these look like with the 8000RPM redline and 24.7" tire. in order of JDM, Evo 9, Evo 8 (too big of a jump from 4-5) Open to any input.
What are you planning on doing with the car these days? That should dictate the mile an hour you need at the top of 4th and 5th.
Still the same plan for now, 99% track use. Not concerned with fuel economy or cruising, just want a 5th gear that's usable (not falling out of boost because of a long ratio jump) at the medium sized tracks where I'll still see 130-140mph but not run out of gear at larger tracks like Road America or COTA.
By the way I'm back up in Chicago again, shoot me a text next time you're up in the area for a visit.
The Jdm 5th is amazing at the track. The TT car we built last year has a tre built trans with the Jdm 5th. Any trans I have jon build for a race car moving forward will have it.

What tracks are you driving at with that trans? The JDM 5th seems a bit too short on paper but it may be fine in the real world. I asked Jon about a JDM 5th when I picked up my diff and tcase from him and he said he hasn't been able to get any in over a year so not crossing my fingers too tightly on that one.

Would prefer to stick to stock final drive. Would only really consider changing it if the one in the trans needs to be replaced. Would go 4.31 for sure though as the JDM 5th seems just right with that combo but not sure I want to give up acceleration in 3rd and 4th. Who are the preferred options for FDs?
