This weekend I'll do a compression test, just gotta get a kit together and watch vids on how, never hadda do one and been ages since last time I watched about it.
As for the hydrolock thing I did not try and crank it since the roll but read stuff about fluids possible leaking past rings into cylinders while on it's side which was possible I figured which is why I been yakking about it. Never mind that, didn't happen! Best pic down the plug hole, I dunno does that look normal for an engine that spent the night on it's side then sat for 5 years?
Well, just ordered a bunch o sensors because 1 of em is toast and spares are fine to have. Getting both cams and crank. Cause next time I go to car I'll have laptop n tactrix cable so logging/codes will be available and this car WILL run. At least this worked!
Soooooooo...I'm pretty sure my tools and facilities are no longer really up to what needs to happen. I could not for the life of me get the crank pulley loose and don't own a monster ugga-dugga gun.
None of my diagnostic attempts(evoscan n torque) properly hooked up so was unable to even see if RPM register during cranking or injectors pulsing or spark(but I did the tester so no spark is known) so probably at a point where just gonna haul it to a shop and let em figure it out.
On a brighter note all key barrels are now swapped and a matched set. Not gonna lie, woulda been nice if car had fired after plugging in driver key barrel as it's gotta be tied into immob. system somehow. No such luck...so I swapped door switch panels as well just in case. No dice. You can't see the bolt that makes swapping key barrels a PITA but it's there.... Figured out why ACD reservoir wouldn't hold fluid, this was cracked...and now it's broken and almost impossible to find. Oh yeah, ACD solenoid is what it is. Silly me thinking it was just the 4 bolts holding the pulley on. Fudge. Now what?
I'm hoping someone chimes in right away as now I'm confused, does the middle bolt on crank pulley need to come off to remove lower timing cover so I can swap sensor? Doing a lot of reading and getting mixed signals. Is it just the 4 bolts then gently tap pulley loose or is the big bolt in the middle gotta come off as well? If it's the 4 bolts tomorrow is Canadian USA day so no work and I can go try the swap but if it's the big bolt I'm hooped and hiring a shop...or spending a pile more money on tools...that I have no place to store...
its just the 4 small bolts that hold on the dampener.
Just so I'm clear on this, it's the thing in my last post, if it comes off then I can remove lower timing cover to access crank sensor? I'm aware to wiggle the sensor free(with patience, lotta swearing and luck) the power steering pump comes off and that lowering passenger side of engine is a must.
Thanks for the response and patience, I think maybe I'm confused on what some stuff actually is called cause blah blah first serious car and I ain't no mechanic! THAT'S THE DAMPENER!?! This sumbiitch right here? I did take out the 4 bolts then got scared and here we are. Dampener huh? Makes sense and I never was sure which spot a fancy one went on cause the issue only came up now. I'm learneding!
yah that's it, its a dampener/pulley. Just those 4 bolts and it will come off. It might need a little help though lol.
Well if I don't get smashed tonight then tomorrow I'll be a big boy and and give it some slightly more serious whaps with a mallet and see what gives...not the edge of the pulley...I cannot stress my thanks for the quick and concise response. It's gonna be this sensor. Gotta be, right? What else can it be? Process of elimination and I have the cam sensors too but they are less likely because of the no spark or injector pulse. On a brighter note I found the solenoid on Ebay and hopefully those wily Russians send the right one! 250$ but that's cheaper than a whole friggin pump! Especially when I might wreck a pulley and spend 500 on a fancy dampener, just checked that's current CAD price.
did you ever get logging setup to verify its not seeing a crank signal? You can log RPM during cranking
That's the other reason a shop is kind of appealing as I couldn't get Evoscan or Torque to work properly. Been a long time since I tried logging and my laptop is SLOW AF and new to Torque so maybe better Elm thing is needed.
However, now that I feel like the sensor is doable I'll get a charger for the battery so power isn't a problem while trying to get a diagnostic thing to work. Any suggestions on a charger? Is a trickle charger good? One of those lithium boxes?
Okay, rain here has made it suck for timing on car crap and today was finally nice and I wasn't working. So this let me go screw around at the car and sleuth out some stuff. Got the bumper mounting bolts that sheared off drilled out and removed, hooray! On a more ominous or whatever side of things it looks like I got no power going to OBD2 port so that explains why no logging device worked. I did make sure my bluetooth dongle worked, running torque pro in van on it and connected to my phone, so once in car no bueno. So I tore the dash apart looking for a not connected thing, there was none, all the things are connected. Then I google some crap and read about OBD not functioning if battery power is below an unknown to me threshold. I unplugged stereo to both avoid confusing bluetooth signals and limit draw on battery. None of this mattered, I'm still cranking(had a pal today watch crank turn, that's nice) but no fire. So I'm stumped and because it's all in a field I'm very open to suggestions on a course of action other than hiring a shop, what I'm gonna be forced to do.
Also, how hard you gotta hit that dampener to get it to let loose? I whacked the hell out of it(2by4+hammer So I take out the 4 bolts, mark it with blue to line it up proper again then HAMMERED THE BANANAS out of it and still no move. Yes it's all wet from penetrant lube! Open to the craziest ideas! Might not try but good to know how insane a guy'll get.
) and bupkus!
Okay, so technically the car has a shop appointment for Aug 12 but I'm pretty impatient especially when the GF is outta town so I did some sleuthing and came across the obvious and bought a harmonic puller kit thing. THIS BLOODY WELL BETTER WORK! Also bought a battery charger/tender with blah blah settings and whatever because I've drained the battery screwin around too much.
And the biggest news for today is tires. Got a set of RE71R for 850$CAD mounted/balanced/nitrogen filled. That's a stellar price up here and am curious what America pays for a set? For the battery. This is gonna solve all the problems dammit! Are these the best tires? I dunno, they get good reviews and bad reviews but right now and with budget being a thing they rock! But seriously, you guys like em?

So I watch videos and they all seem to think this bloody pulley oughta just pop off all happy slappy. DAFUQ MAN!?! So I hammer and i penetrate with oils and I tension with a puller only to have what happen? Of course I tried prying a teeny bit and cracked the effing lower timing cover. Of course the edge of the pulley is made of metal dust pressure and dreams so it popped a chunk out. My next effort will of course be heat and I'm scared that's gonna cook/warp/destroy some other thing. I'm really at kind of a loss here. So here's a pic and can anyone enlighten me as to what's up with the little hole in the pulley that takes no bolt? Is there anything in there that'll cause it to never come off? What section of the shop manual is related to this? Mine is all scattered and perhaps my frustration might have me being a touch erratic...like HULK SMASH kinda vibe. Two things, what's with the little hole and is that chunk enough to call this very frustrating thing destroyed and needing immediate replacement?

Reason: page in shop manual?
Huzzah blintzes! I sure bloody well hope this ends up getting the car running again...woulda cost 500$ in shop time to get the bastard thing off, I spent all afternoon heating and peening. Once all the moisture was chased out dust started moving and eventually the beast came free. Now I think maybe it's toast. Also got a melty spot in lower cover...which had already cracked so whatever. Sunday I will finish removing lower cover if all goes reasonably-ish. Hooray! But yeah, see the hole in the cover? Not sure what to do about that right now, might try patching it somehow. Also, see where the bolt sheered off in oil filter housing? Yeah, that too. C'est la vie. Managed to keep turning timing belt enough not to have cooked it which is a plus. Toast or what? Whack some bits off opposing side and send it or what? Shoulda flipped it over to snap a pic of the ever so evil little dowel pin! Anyway, what do you all think? Run it or not? Mostly on wheels again for a final trip.
Yahahaha Muddahfockahs! Man that was tricky BUT the sensor is swapped! Bunch o the bits are back on. Got some epoxy to patch/fix cover. Does that look grungy enough to interfere with operation? Whatever, new one is in. But seriously, anyone with some savvy wanna let me know if that is in fact dirty enough to kill it that would be awesome for learning reasons. Hole and crack but didn't do any more damage getting it the rest of the way out. New sensor in! Man that swap is easy once you get to the sensor itself. Need a bit more patch material to cover that little hole but otherwise I'm happy cause who's got time to wait for shipping from USA!?! Still waiting on that solenoid from Russia!
