Flexibility. I don't remember the WRX has any form of adjusting its 4WD's usage where as RA has ACD's 3 different mode.

Actually, before replying to this, i'm always under the impression that the WRX's only on constant 4wd + stability control. Looks like they do have impression gears like lsd and drivetrain power distribution. But yes, it still don't have the extra flexibility of the ACD.

That doesn't make it inferior that just makes it less complicated. If ACD is anything like the DCCD system in the STI (which it basically is), you won't find yourself using it that often. Most of the STI guys find a setting they like (usually auto) and then just set it and forget it. Just because something is fancier doesn't mean it is superior.

What kind of differentials does the current WRX have? Does it have LSDs front and rear? Does it have DCCD? Is the center diff a viscous coupling diff?

I'm not entirely sure, I think the rear LSD was changed to some other unit but I'm not sure about the center. I don't see why it's an issue anyways since 90% of people wouldn't notice a difference.

I believe the WRX manual has a viscous center and a mechanical rear LSD with an open front. The WRX auto has some sort of electronically controlled center diff.

That's sound like what the 2003 Evo VIII had.

Just for the record, 2002-07 WRX had open front, viscous center and mechanical rear. The 2008 model is the same except it lost it's rear LSD (replaced with and open diff). According to early reports, Subaru's new vehicle stability control (standard on 2008 Imprezas) reduced the need for a rear LSD. However, the "Tuned by Prodrive" models that are common in Europe get a rear LSD so it must do some good.

Anyhow, we will know by Wednesday (Thursday at the latest) if the 2009 WRX gets it's LSD back. I am doubting that it will but we shall see.

The LSD helps a bit when you're pushing really hard but it can also be a pain at times since it makes the back-end more prone to coming around.

Both cars are moddable, tunable, capable cars to sink tons of money in and never be satisfied. The WRX offers a hatch, the R/A offers a superior auto tranny. There's always trade-offs when choosing a brand and model of car, but I don't think anyone spending $26K on either one of these cars are going to be disappointed... for both. Hopefully the '09 Impreza will be as good as the "leaks" are suggesting. As for looks and interior "quality," both cars have been hated on equally.

There's the GTI, MS3, and Volvo C30 in that price range, but for fast AWD, what else is there???

The hatchback will be a moot point once the states receives the Lancer Ralliart Sportback beginning of 2009. Can't wait!

And people make fun of the WRX hatch? I'm sorry but I think the hatchback is better looking than the sportback. Sedan wise I agree that the Ralliart looks very good though.

I dunno, I like it I'm one of those guys that wish Mitsu brought the Evo IX wagon stateside. The tail lights are"meh" but nothing some light tint can't fix to help it flow into the body more. White for me please! I will always choose an equivalent Mitsu over a Subaru. Just don't like the way the latter drives.

I agree. Why not try to be as fast as a stock Evo? Why not try to be faster than a stock Evo? Of course mod for mod the Evo will be faster, but who cares? It's about the fun in making your car faster and better. Some of the people in the 2009 Lancer Ralliart General forum are missing the point of this site. This is an enthusiast site composed mainly of people that want to go faster.
I was laughing only at the sticker part

It doesnt matter if people notices or not, that doesnt change the facts about each AWD system. There are differences between the two,one is more complex, more superior, and no matter if people is blind or dumb, differences will remain.
