Ralliart vs the world
Vette's are nice, but I bought my RA for a lot more reasons than speed.
Yes, it's cool to see what can be done with an RA in terms of mods, 0-60 1/4 mile times, etc. AMS is doing some great work.
I like the RA for more than speed/potential speed.
The RA is a sedan (read family car), and IMO the coolest sedan on the market in terms of looks, handling, power, performance, etc. (right behind the Evo).
The corvette is a faster sleeker sports car with a huge V8.
Two very different cars. Sports car vs sports sedan. Two very different functions. No way I would drive a vette every day, pick up groceries, take the kids to the doctors, etc.
If I had wanted a strictly "super sports car" I would have bought a GT-R...better than a vette! lol
Yes, mods will make any car faster, and yes a modded RA can beat stock times run by Evo's, Vettes, Camaro's, Mustangs, blah blah blah. All fun stuff, but let's not forget that they are not really designed to run all those mods for an extended period of time either. I have read a lot of posts by Evo owners who tore up their cars, transmissions, clutches, engines, etc. from running mods too hard on their cars. Also, any time you upgrade one componant it places heavier wear on other componants. Running the car hard with mods will end up costing you as much if not more over the course of the cars life as it would have if you had bought the vette (or the GT-R).
Don't get me wrong, I know it's easy to get excited over this car it is an awesome machine and with all the posting about AMS and the work they are doing it has generated a lot of buzz. I have enjoyed seeing what they can do, 12.9 is impressive.
On a side note....
After a week of driving this car I came home and told my wife I was going to have to start taking it easy or I was going to end up killing myself. lol I have toned it way down since then.
The same thing happened to a co-worker of mine a few years back. He bought a brand new WRX when they first hit the market, he had one of the first WRX's to hit the states back in 2001. He drove it for 4-5 years and got rid of it because he couldn't control himself, he had gotten a few tickets and had almost lost control of the car a few times before he realized the same thing. He got rid of it because he was really afraid he was going to kill himself in the car.

What a fantastic post. I completely agree on all points. Respecting power and performance is such an important aspect to owning a car like the RA. Also, it's good to note that mods do put stress on a car, and throwing tons of power towards the SST is absolutely ill-advised and will kill your tranny. The RA has some great potential, but its not nearly as limitless as a 4g63 with a standard 5spd.
I am so impressed with the RA, I really am. It's competent, well equipped, and gets you into a car that satisfies the performance you need without having the pricey tag of a dedicated sports car. When I test drove it I really liked it. I just need a 5spd so I'm going to wait a while longer until I pull the trigger on a new car.
Oh, and comparing a modded RA to the corvette is like comparing a turbo GTS to a RA. yes, with a turbo you can keep up in a straight line, but come on... that's not the whole story. Plus, you can't keep repeatedly trying to launch the RA at the track and expect it hold up like a corvette could. That's like a turbo GTS overboosting to make evo numbers. It may happen, but its sure not going to last more than a few runs before something goes pop.

= Beat another GTI real nasty, like so nasty I think the GTI owner traded in for something different

Go Ralliart Go!
i found it!!! wow.. these ralliart people's goals are to "keep up" with cars... how are you going to compare a car thats not even in the same league and say that if you mod the ralliart, you are going to keep up with it. if you have the money and time the ralliart will keep up with any car you put next to it..

I guess I understand how they feel, they are the ralliart owners on a evo forum. Kind of like owning a yamaha acoustic guitar and looking for praise on the yamaha superbike forums
yeah.. but don't make your car something its not... i dont go out and buy **** for my car that makes it look like an evo... if your going to compare cars.. do what the exotic owners do.. stock vs. stock
I don't even mind stock vs. modified comparisons, what I do think is stupid is what's in my sig, taking a cheaper car and saying that with X amounts of mods, you can "beat" a more expensive car thus making the cheaper car "better". It's retarded, car manufacturer's aren't stupid and you simply cannot match them with aftermarket parts. It would cost more to make a RA truly perform like a Corvette than it would to just buy a ****ing Corvette.
It would be really nice if the mods closed this forum its really a torn in my *** and I'm sure it is for everyone else.
