Agreed.

The techline is telling my guy that it's just the actual timing belt and that they have a new belt out for the car when my 60k comes up. The timing belt will make noises as it warms up.

Basically, there is no problem.

My friends repair shop did my 60k service today with the new bracket. No more weird idle noise and etc. I ordered the new bracket from Mitsubishiparts.net the other week. The bracket install took a hour longer because the power steering unit needed to come loose and what not.

I took some pictures of new bracket and old oem bracket.

left is NEW, right is OLD

I'm just wondering because I haven't seen it in any posts, but are you guys hearing this noise while your inside the car also? I think I have the same noise but I'm a long way from needing a new timing belt.

Don't believe him. I had the noise last summer. Installed a new Gates belt, pulleys, water pump, etc. No noise for about 3 months, then it started again. Doesn't go away after it warms up. It sounds like the bracket is the answer, but I haven't replaced it yet.

It looks like they just machined the clearance for the belt more...

Have you checked your cam rollers? at 60k is about time they generally start to make noise.

Just want to clarify: This bracket is NOT covered under a warranty repair and I must purchase it myself? I have the same sound on my 2006 IX MR with 60k on it. I purchased an extended warranty but It doesn't sound like that will do any good. If there is something that I need to tell the dealer to get it covered please let me know as I am looking into fixing this.

I have somewhat of a similar noise in my car as well. I am doing my 60k service in about two weeks so hopefully thats what it is.. Have you done your 60k yet?

EDIT: Nevermind, I just noticed you said you just did your 60k.. Yea, let us know what happens. Hopefully the noise wont come back!

It definitely sounds like a cam belt problem. The frequency of the noise is about the length of time it takes the belt to make one complete revolution at idle. Pull the upper cover and turn the engine over slowly by hand with a 17mm socket on the cam. Inspect the belt carefully and look for damaged teeth. Replacement takes about 3 hours and a requires few busted knuckles due to the lack of clearance. Just finished mine today!
