IX Engine idle noise (belt?) (video)
Stupid question time. Instead of buying the new bracket, can you remove the extra material yourself? It's hard to see in the picture if there is extra material around the bolt holes to make up for removing it in other places.
Mine has been doing this for years now. Aside from there being a noise, it really doesn't seem to be a serious issue. I just ignore it now, I'm to the point I don't hear it anymore unless I'm listening for it specifically.
I've got a 98 evo 5 which I've owned for about 3 months now and seem to be experiencing the same issue and also a noise by the manifold/injectors, http://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&fe...&v=WCFSLVRCFVs have also heard changing the timing belt for a genuine mitsubishi one can stop the noise aswell if your belt isn't genuine
Also a victim of the noise here. doesn't really bother me that much, but i'm thinking of selling the car soon maybe - and i'd rather it not make a disconcerting noise when you start it up in the morning.
can you just replace the bracket? i've had my timing belt done not that long ago (to fix this noise, but it didn't :/). Warranty is thing of the past so i dont really want to do the whole lot again

DON'T IGNORE this sound !!! I have an 06 MR that I'm working on for the second time now with this sound. The owner got it used and it has been making this sound for years too.
Well I took off the cam gear cover and guess what? Her blue Gates belt was shredding itself on the inside !!! Side where crank sensor blade is. It was nearly torn in two in a few spots !!! Good thing it was the reinforced belt !!! You can see her belt jumping between the cam gears it was so bad !!!
Anywho. we ordered the revised parts in this thread and looking at the pulley bracket from the SIDE you can see it has been changed. The idler pulley position is changed and several other places have material removed.
I'm replacing that bracket, the tensioner and the crank sensor blade today/tomorrow will let you know the outcome.
Part Number MR984375 Adjuster, Timing Belt Tension Qty 1
Part Number MD369999 Pulley, Timing Belt Tension Qty 1
Part Number 1091A133 Bracket Cylinder Block Qty 1 *****Updated New Part from Mitsu that supposedly fixes the noise problem. Original bracket was machined incorrectly by supplier to Mitsu*****
and this is the crank blade I'm using: MD190865
DON'T IGNORE THAT SOUND!!! I thought I took pix...can't seem to find them now though.

ps: belts are supposed to be DRY !!! NEVER put any dressing on a belt. That only MASKS the problem. Like waxing a faded car. The paint
still is bad. You just don't see it for a few months.

For reassurance, can anyone confirm that this is the noise? First winter owning the car, and since it started getting cold, it makes this sound on a cold start.
