IX Engine idle noise (belt?) (video)
If the sound doesn't bother you, then I say don't worry about it.
I've joined the "I love my Evo but despise Mitshi and its dealers" club...
Well, unfortunately, I think I've joined the "I love my Evo but despise Mitsu and its dealers" club. I have three weeks left on my warranty (bought my black mr se new 3/28/07). I started getting this dreaded noise a few weeks back (approx 28,000). I felt like the stars were alligned when I found this thread, and most importantly post 586 with the answer. Brought my car to Lasorsa Mitsu in the Bronx (as the three Westchester stealerships closed years ago) to have the bracket replaced. I went armed with a print out of this entire thread, with 586 highlighted. Long story short, their "tech" said the belts looked fine and because the noise wasn't causing any damage, replacing the bracket would not be covered by Mitsu warranty. I urged them to look at the techline case number - well, because there wasn't a recall or tsb, they said no dice. I explained that there were over 700 posts on this, it is a real problem (and in most cases the belts were not prematurely worn), and other dealers have covered the replacement. They would not budge. For the inconvenience of taking my car in and geting this well-thought out and reasoned detemination, I had the honor of paying a $125 diagnosis fee. I am happy that I am at the end of this worthless warranty and now a proud member of the club referenced above.

The guy at service said you're better off finding aftermarket replacements, and was really nice to me. Even topped off the transfer case for free.
Win some you lose some.
Mine is doing the same thing, makes a weird like bearing/ grinding noise from the belt area, but its hard to pin point where its coming from. Since the car is under warranty for 17 more days, im taking to the dealer Wednesday to have them check it out and hopefully fix it for free
could someone post a picture of the updated bracket that needs installed to remedy the noise issue? I can't seem to find a picture of where this bracket is exactly located. Does the timing belt need to be removed to replace this?

My 06 IX MR is making the exact same noise as the OP's video. I still had a few days of my warranty left so i took it to the dealer which was quite a headache but anyways they told me my serp belt was bad and replaced it under warranty. Since mine only does it when the car is completely cold as sitting over night, i had to wait till the next day to find out if it fixed the noise. I was not surprised when i started it up the next morning to find it still making the same noise, was not as loud as before, but still making the noise. Im gonna have to look into the serp belt tensioner pulley to see if thats what the problem is.
The car is going into JNZ Tuning shortly for a timing belt and clutch so if i can't figure it out, im gonna have them look into it as well

My car has 64k on it and started making the noise at about 59k. Brought the car to the dealer a month ago and had them check and replace the previously mentioned part numbers and the noise completely stopped and hasn't since. Best part about it was I showed the store owner this thread and also some chosen replies by me and he said he would do the work for a flat oil change fee. So I received and oil change and a free "make that damned annoying sound go away" repair for free.

what all parts did you have them replace that fixed it? The revised mount?
Part Number MD369999 Pulley, Timing Belt Tension Qty 1
Part Number 1091A133 Bracket Cylinder Block Qty 1 *****Updated New Part from Mitsu that supposedly fixes the noise problem. Original bracket was machined incorrectly by supplier to Mitsu*****
Part Number 1145A038 Belt, Valve Timing Qty 1
Part Number MR984778 Belt, Balancer Timing Qty 1
This was the parts list that I went by. This one was within the thread. I told the dealer this was the "sure fix" and he was completely fine with it. This was also the original place the car was purchased at brand new.
