I'm with this guy. Did the 60k mile job over a year ago now along with the cylinder block bracket. I am pretty sure it was the bracket as many have noted to solve their problem.

I am the original owner of the car and I had the noise for a few years before the 60k mile job and there was no irregular wear on my timing belt for whatever that is worth. I'd still recommend to fix it at your earlier convenience.

Good luck!

Just got the new bracket and new belt on today. So far, have not heard the noise again. Please note that after 8~ years, and nearly 60,000 miles, the timing belt showed rub marks on the inside edge, but was in no way fraying, or anything like that. Definitely nothing more than an annoying noise.....at least on my car. Still, I'm very happy to have piece of mind that it's most likely not going to be making that noise anymore. It is a Mitsubishi though, so I'm sure a new unexplained and very concerning noise is just around the corner.

Have this similar sound for 4 years now. Only happens when engine is cold and no major wear has been reported by the mechanic. Still, I want it to be fixed. Car is going in for its major service this week and the mech is as keen as I am to fix the issue. Will be nice to start the car one morning and not hear this belt noise

The squeaky noise went away when I did a 60k timing belt job and used the new bracket.

I think I paid $600ish, including new bracket, belt, fluids, etc as part of a 60k service, but I got it done at my favorite performance shop. And for what it's worth, still no noise after nearly 10k miles since the new bracket.

Stupid question... but the new cylinder bracket comes unpainted. Has everyone else painted it to prevent rust before installing?
