Now that the problem has been pinpointed, is there a fix? Will this rubbing issue cause premature wear on the TB?

Well Dealer fixed it, but wrote down Cam Sprocket replaced? I thought it was the timing belt on the crank sensor blade

For what it's worth......I used to have the idle metal scraping noise relentlessly, but I have not heard it ever since switching to GSC S2's with beehive springs about 1500 miles ago, which included raising my warm idle to 950 rpm. Weird huh?!

The noise gets lesser and lesser as it reaches 1K rpm. So when I first startup my car (cold), no scraping noise... but once the car warms up and the idle falls below 1K, thats when the noise starts.

The noise gets SIGNIFICANTLY worse when I have the brakes on and ride the clutch a little, as that makes the RPM fall.

That's a good point. In my case the scraping noise used to start up around 1100-1200 rpm on it's way down to a warm idle though, so I think the idle oscillation inherent with the bigger cams might be the bigger factor as to why my car no longer makes the noise than it is the fact that it never idles near 750 rpm anymore. Definitely could be wrong about that though.

Lightbulb

Here's what my research has come up with.

Crankshaft Angle Sensing Blade
Part# 1840A006

Crankshaft Camshaft Drive Sprocket
Part# MD326852

Crankshaft Pulley Washer
Part# MD377400

Crankshaft Pulley Center Bolt
Part# 1101A022

I'm want to replace these parts when I do my Timing Belt Service and am trying to source the parts as we speak. At least I'll know that new pieces are installed and won't be worried.

Hi MJ23FE,

Mind to share the link you bought the item for belting change.
My time also around the corner... the item above can be use on JDM EVO 8MR?
Hopefully the could ship the item to Malaysia...

Thanks in advance

I purchased my 60k parts from Adam @ Modern Automotive Performance and the crankshaft parts listed above from Chad @ CBRD. Both are vendors on this forum.

For my 60k service I will be installing the following:

MAP
-Water Pump
-Balance Belt Tensioner
-Balance Belt*
-Timing Belt*

-Timing Belt Tensioner
-Timing Belt Tensioner Pulley
-Timing Belt Idler Pulley
-Serpentine Belt (w/AC)
*Gates Racing Kevlar Belts

CBRD
-Crankshaft Angle Sensing Blade
-Crankshaft Camshaft Drive Sprocket
-Crankshaft Pulley Washer
-Crankshaft Pulley Center Bolt

All are OEM Mitsubishi Parts except the Timing Belt and Balance Belt. This is all being installed by CBRD on November 29th. Woot woot!

I would double check with MAP to see what would be different between the VIII and IX. Off the top of my head I know that the Water Pump's are different.

^let us know if that fixes it.

Is the CBRD Crankshaft Angle Sensing Blade made differently than the OEM one so that it doesn't rum against the Timing Belt?

MJ23FE,

Any update or comment after the installation MAP & CBRD parts.
Appreciate if you could share with us.

I might follow your step if everything good from your side.
