IX Engine idle noise (belt?) (video)
i swaped the accessory belt and still have the issue, but iam leaning more and more toward the alternator or the alt pulley itself. as it happened to a friend of mine, whos familiar with the noise and it was his alternator pulley. got that swapped and never heard it again.
the other thing that made me think its the alt, is that sometimes my volt gauges starts bouncing between 12-14 volts during idle, and the car tries to die, untill i give it some gas.
will eventualy replace it and report back to u guys!

NO IT'S NOT. This has been stated time and time again. Mods should really close this because people keep coming on here with their opinions after it has already been stated what it is. Its the timing belt rubbing on the crankshaft blade.
Back off buddy, read our (you and myself writing of this earlier) posts, I guess you forgot we spoke of the accessory belt earlier in this thread? Its not just "My opinion".
By the way, if I ever did mention accessory belt, I take that back. Because I confirmed that it is not. And now that I look back, I noticed I never once said it was the accessory belt in response to your post that the dealer told you it was. You definitely had a different noise.

Believe what you wan't son, but the topic of this thread has been confirmed the crankshaft blade is rubbing on the timing belt. Sounds like you got some other noise unrelated to this one. You're misleading alot of people who come on here to find out where the sound is really coming from. There's been numerous videos confirming this, check some of em out. The issue has nothing to do with the accessory belt and everything to do with the timing belt.

Sorry you are letting this degrade into personal attacks...but I have documented proof of what I (and the dealer) has done to make the noise stop.
Good luck to you
each case is different, so no need to start arguing over the causes, lets keep this discussion going.
on the timing belt note, if it does rubb againts the crank blade, then should there be any evidence of that rubbage against lets say the edge of teh belt...etc if inpected?
Thanks

Last time i checked my timing belt, there were no marks on it to show that it was rubbing against something, and i am experiencing the same noise as the OP's.
I believe that there are different causes and fixes for this problem. Some by changing the timing belt and crankshaft blade, others by chaning the acc belt and/or pullies.

Anyhow, your documented proof is of a different problem as stated before. To the previous posters, you are not going to get the same noise from the timing belt rubbing the crankshaft blade and an accessory belt issue. Two completely different things and I have heard both. The main issue stated was a flaw in mitsubishi's design hence everyone's deal on getting it repaired under warranty. (we all know timing belt changes/etc. aren't cheap) I don't think anyone would need an accessory belt repaired under warranty.

I've seen the videos etc. The OP has the timing belt issue. Let's stay focused on the problem at hand.

I had the exact same noise in mine. I just got it back from the dealer and the guy at San Rafael Mitsubishi said the initial design of the belt had flaws so they are replacing them with a newer/better design I guess. My car personally needed the TB replaced.
Very similar sound with mine. took it to the dealer under warranty and they replaced the timing belt, idler pulley and tensioner free of charge. They said it was a combo of all of them.
Sound is gone now and it was free.
