It may make the same, or at least a similar sound, but your issue is different than what the OP, myself, and most others with that sound are experiencing. The OP clearly states on post #37 and #40 that his issue was with the timing belt, and most others with that sound have already verified that the noise is coming from behind/inside the timing belt area on their car as well. I know that mine definitely is.

So...since yours is a different issue, it would probably be best if you started a new thread with video to show what you're experiencing, making sure to note that your issue is external to the timing belt area. That would be best for other Evo owners that could be potentially experiencing the same issue that you're having, and potentially help you to resolve what's happening with your car. Just my 2 cents.

Im not running the mini battery and still have the noise. I replaced the accessory belt tensioner pulley thinking it was the problem but the noise is still there.

How many miles since the clean? Has the noise reappeared?

About a week ago, when it is cold outside and I begin to warm up the car before I even drive it, I start to hear a small squeak, as if the timing belt is warped or dry. I'm not sure, but it is bothering the hell out of me. I cant stand to have any imperfections to my car.

No, with grease on it the noise was gone. But I did not like the grease idea, so I took off the belt and put on a new one again. But Grease attracts dust and dirt. The noise is back slightly. This noise is better than dust and dirt jamming into the pulleys.

people are getting the noises mixed up. The noise that is the problem is audible when cold, or fully warmed up!

it is NOT normal.... its only a common issue that has yet to be resolved.

It's certainly common with the Evo IX, but not normal for a belt and pulley system to make that noise. There's a reason that, for example, the VIII's don't make that noise, so it's clearly a design and/or component issue that was introduced with the new MIVEC powerplant. I've yet to hear of any timing belt failures or anything like that because of this, but I'd certainly appreciate Mitsubishi providing some new components that will get rid of the noise permanently.

This.

I can't believe one of the shops haven't chimed in. I'm sure one of them has stumbled across some type of info.

It looks like I will be able to get some sort of resolution. What they can do (which I read before considering the lemon law) is give me my money back , and a percentage of that goes to the dealer. With the price of used EVO's going down. I can find a fully built EVO 8 for about $20,000. Might be a good time to buy if I can return the EVO 9. I'll let you know what they tell me.
Could you please give us the address of where you sent your love letter to? I have a nice letter that I'd like to send them as well. I am about to have to replace mine for the third time as well. This is really starting to annoy me.

So was this ever fixed? Seems like you are saying they just lubed your belts.

I just read through the last 10 pages or so of this, and I have started recently having this problem as well. I get a squeeking sound sort of like the video OP posted. I only get it when the engine is a complete cold start, but it goes away as soon as the motor is warm.

I'm confused as to the problem OP and you guys have, if you guys having all the time or only when motor is cold.

People here are not clarify their fixes to what their initial problem was and how it occurs (cold or warm car?), or maybe I'm just not reading the full thread and only skimmed the last 10 pages.

So if it comes back, then it appears that area needs to be cleaned out and watched more often.

1/29: Just got it back and they say that it was indeed the accessory belt. It is silent now. So everyone take off your belts and clean them up! Or have the dealer do it.

1/30/: Ok I have more info. I looked at the belt and touched it. It appears the mechanic put a layer of Grease on the bottom of the belt. Is this standard? I have never done this on any of my cars.
Well I don't believe him either. Because mine still does it after a new belt and me going under the hood with a stethiscope. It's definitely inside. From all the reading (AND ITS ALOT OF READING), I am sticking with what originally was said about the crank blade sensor or whatever rubbing the timing belt.
