IX Engine idle noise (belt?) (video)
Assuming they admit that the problem was not caused by the customer. For example, I brought my car in to the dealership literally telling them that the problem was with the timing belt, crankshaft blade, etc., and they returned it to me stating that the accessory belts were "overdressed" and billed me $150 to spray degreaser on them. The belts of course had never been "dressed" to begin with.
No surprise, the car made the same noise again within a week. When I eventually have 3 days where I can live without my car again, I will definitely be taking it back to those jokers and demanding they get someone to work on the car that has a clue.
Also, has anyone taken their car to the dealership 4 or more times for this issue? If so, and your IX is still under 60K miles, any chance you want to test the lemon law? I just did a little research on this, and it looks like that would be enough to be able to file for a refund. Just thinking that if there are enough people that are unhappy about this, and willing to stick it to Mitsu for refunds, then they might be more willing to do something about the problem before all of their IX customers with problems decide to get refunds.

This appears to be the problem.
Will the EVO 8 Sensor blade fit the EVO 9 and will that fix the issue? hmmmm...

Just a bump and a reminder to visit the NHTSA site and register the complaint. There is enough of us here to get our problem resolved if we just file a formal complaint. It only took me 5-10 min. Let this issue get resolved on mitsu's dime!!
Just filed my NHTSA complaint. My noise started last August at 21xxx miles.
Someone stated that its the timing sensor blade. My 1g talon used to have a similar blade between the balance shaft belt and the timing belt (not used for timing just a spacer) and had the same exact markings on the back but my talon never made that noise.

I'm at work so the pictures in the link posted in the above quote do not show up. However, if it is in fact the Crankshaft Angle Sensing Blade, then here are some photos of it.

You can see how it could potentially be mounted too close to the belt causing it to rub and create the noise we have all been hearing.

I just had a horrible thought: What if this is another case of Crankwalk? They say some of the 2G DSM's have crankwalk. One symptom is "Ticking or strange noise from the pulley side of the engine when clutch is depressed." Also they say (quoting overbore.com) " ...causing the crank angle sensor reluctor plate to come into contact with the sensor." Looking at the exploded view (EVO) shows the crank angle sensor is (of course) behind the crank sensing blade! I don't think so, I hope not. But the 2G Talons have quite a few more symptoms, none of us have reported those.
