Same here,im wondering if the freezing temps is making the belt stiff and hard causing the noise.Im wondering if maybe putting some kind of rubber safe lube on the side of the belt would be somewhat of a fix?

i used the belt lubricant myself and it stopped the noise for now. i had also noticed a mark/dry mark on the belt and thats where i applied the spray.

OK people. I've been thinking about this issue a lot, and I think that the belt rubbing on the crankshaft blade is just a symptom of the problem. From my experience with this mechanical rubbing/scraping noise, it only happens on my car at idle, either when it's really cold in the morning, or after it's been heated up after a long drive.....and it usually takes at least 15-20 seconds of idling before it starts making the noise at the idle rpm. Therefore, I would like to hypothesize that the real issue/problem is with the tensioner, as if it's not providing enough tension on the belt when the engine is at the idle rpm/load. If that wasn't the issue, then it would make sense that the belt would make that same grinding/scraping noise, but even louder/worse as the rpm's go up.....right?!?! But it doesn't, apparently applying enough tension to the belt once the load increases to at least reduce the slack in the belt enough to no longer let it rub against the crankshaft blade. So....the question becomes, does anyone make an aftermarket TB tensioner for the 4G63? I know that Hybrid Racing makes an aftermarket tensioner for the Honda K Series engines, since the OEM tensioner doesn't live long after you install aftermarket cams, but I couldn't find one online for the 4G63. Maybe someone can talk Buschur, AMS, or someone else into fabbing one up to confirm my hypothesis?!?! Let me know what you guys think.

I just had a horrible thought: What if this is another case of Crankwalk? They say some of the 2G DSM's have crankwalk. One symptom is "Ticking or strange noise from the pulley side of the engine when clutch is depressed." Also they say (quoting overbore.com) " ...causing the crank angle sensor reluctor plate to come into contact with the sensor." Looking at the exploded view (EVO) shows the crank angle sensor is (of course) behind the crank sensing blade! I don't think so, I hope not. But the 2G Talons have quite a few more symptoms, none of us have reported those.

That (x569) sounds slightly different than the original posted video. My problem comes when the car is warm and not at all when cold, which seems to be backwards from most mentioned. My problem sounds identical to the original posted video.

I had mine worked on under warranty. Same sound as most others. I described it as a washing machine sound. Long story short they replaced the timing belt tensioner pulley. I went to pick the car up and as it was delivered to me I could faintly hear the same sound. It was not nearly as loud as it was before but it was still there. I was told by the tech that the sound would have to be considered normal for the time being as they didn't see anything else causing a problem. The tech also said he had replaced a few others and they all left sounding the same and have not returned with further problems. Funny thing is the sound was the worst when it was warm before the repair work was done and now the sound has gradually gotten worse but I only hear it when the car is cold. Even if I sit and let it idle I will still hear it until I begin driving for a few miles then it stops. I just have to laugh now. When I can afford some evo down time I will take it back to the dealership and pet detective park it in their colon. Can we say 'like a glove'!!!!

^^^^ That's some funny ish right there. Good luck with that. Let us know how that works out for ya.

And in response to Routybouty....my car only used to make the noise when it was hot outside as well, but it just started making the noise this winter the few times that it's actually cold in the mornings here in San Antonio. 24K miles on the odometer for reference.
