1/29: Just got it back and they say that it was indeed the accessory belt. It is silent now. So everyone take off your belts and clean them up! Or have the dealer do it.

1/30/: Ok I have more info. I looked at the belt and touched it. It appears the mechanic put a layer of Grease on the bottom of the belt. Is this standard? I have never done this on any of my cars.
I might have to try this also!

Did you check if the dealership also put some grease on the timing belt? Also how old is your accessory belt? have you ever changed it?

I changed that belt myself at 30K (with a Non--Mistubishi belt). Not sure if they greased the TBelt. I doubt it...

I replaced the belt on mine, and it reduced the noise alot. but didnt remove it completely. however, now that the weather is starting to warmup, the noise doesn;t come on sometimes.

btw how many people are getting this noise and are using a minibattery?
the reason why iam asking, is cuz the mech told me that it could be a possibility that the alternator is over working to recharge the battery at start up since it might be low on voltage. not sure how much of that is true. but i do have amini batt on mine so...

That's all external of the timing belt, tensioner, crank sensor blade, etc., so it wouldn't impact it. Tell your mechanic to think of ideas for stuff behind the timing belt cover.

I suppose inside of the timing belt cover is a more accurate way to put it. It's just that the alternator is external to the longblock, and driven by the accessory belt, which has nothing to do with the noise the OP and many others like myself are experiencing.

As far as mods go as of the time my car started making the noise, it had a TBE and an APS BOV. That's it, so it's clearly a Mitsubishi OEM parts/component issue.
