Any definite answer to the solution of this problem? I've heard a lot of parts being tossed around, no definite answer.

1.) Timing belt.
2.) Idler pulley.
3.) PS pulley.
4.) Left side motor mount (3) bolts backing out.

etc...

Well I think the problem is that the probability of our cars making the same noise(s) with the exact same problem are slim to none. However, with one of the noises, a few people, including myself, have had success with replacing the crankshaft blade, sensor, and Mitsu just "replaced" mine although the said it wasn't a "must". I actually have a pretty cool dealership near me. Two, actually, have been more than helpful.

So can anyone chime in on this issue? If so many of us are having a problem why isnt there a recall? Someone else said the dealership told them it wasnt a "must fix" item. What does that mean? A boost leak isnt a must fix item also but hey you just lost some power and crap mileage.

that is some bull****! if a tensioner/pulley or bracket fails in that area then say bye bye to the engine. it should be a must fix item.

Well that' the thing... who has had a failure due to this noise that has casue any damage? A lot of people are getting this noise but till Mitsu has to start paying out for damage I doubt there will be a recall.

Funny you say that because I've read this post more than once, and can't recall anyone saying it caused their car to fail. (Not saying I can recite every post, just saying it doesn't strike me as happened, within this thread at least) I guess most of "us" who have had the problem have gotten it fixed before it became a real issue. Although, I can remember one post stating it went thousands of miles with the sound. Others, including myself, who have had their timing belt removed/ replaced, have had mitsu tell them nothing seemed physically wrong with the belt itself, even tho it was rubbing.

That's what I was trying to say.... I've never heard of anyone ever having a major issue or anything break due to this.

Mine started around 31k and now I'm over 43k miles. Mine has never been constant. First I noticed it when it was real cold out, started last December. Lately it's only been after I've been beating on it for a period of time track/street. It's never done it at the dealership and I've been a dozen times so I continue to drive it. They won't fix it till they hear the problem. I did have them double check all the belts each time just to make sure that there was not abnoramll ware on them.

I've done over 30 passes at track this year. After my pass the noise would start. Later once the car cooled off and it was time to make another pass the noise was gone. This would repeat throughout the day. I've also been around 400 whp/tq all year too. So I beat on it pretty well with a decent amount of power and havn't had any issues other than just the noise.

I'll just keep runing it till it's more constant so I can take it back to the dealership.

Im gonna have to do that as well. I still freak on every sound cuz my EVO is still new to me, but I can't afford to keep ripping it apart to find the source so I gotta learn to just blast my stereo and zone the noises out. AUMMMMMMM

I agree, I have done the same with most. The noise was just so loud, it was more embarrassing than anything else. Its funny how, while it appears to have been nothing major, the sound was just so wretched, I couldn't stand it anymore. I'm a bit of a perfectionist, and while I try not to let things like that get to me, this one I just couldn't take any longer.

To the post earlier about a recall: IMO I seriously doubt we'll see that anytime soon. Again IMO, nothing has failed or proved to be dangerous. While I understand that most people would find this to be unacceptable; were talking about a Mitsu, not a Lexus. Therefore, I don't see "noise(s)" being the brunt of a recall/ service fix.

Hmmm,

Sadly, when I bought my White GSR (the one with the issue) it was making the noise already. Off topic, but I took a chance, turned out I got lucky that Mitsu did warranty work and fixed it. Continuing, I really don't know how long my GSR was making the noise. Car always made the noise, cold/ warm/ rain/ sun. Never came and went. I wonder if it happens because the heat is causing something of yours to expand (while hot) maybe mine was already stretched to the limit, hence why mine was constant and yours isn't.

Previously I owned a 06 MR SE, bought brand new. When I sold it, it was about 2 years old and had about 42K on it. Never heard the noise one time. I don't know how some cars have it and some don't. Kind of weird.

haha I know, I sold my IS300 to buy 1 EVO, now I'm on my second EVO. I love this car and will not let things get in the way of why I bought it. I knew what I was comming from and going to were opposite ends of the spectrum.... I'd make the same decision 100 times over though.
