The other bit is when Mr Plod pulls you over and asks "so where's your permit for the fron mount intercooler son? mmmm"
You can say - "ahh well that's factory standard, sir!"
I don't think the EVO 8 is a very good car to make a sleeper though. Even if you took the rear wing off it like certain RS models, it'll still look way too much like an EVO. Unfortunately the rest of the got fast looks are functional - that's what they say anyway

SO where are those pics of that car, eh? I though someone was supposedly to have an shiny new evo today?
I also thought I should let you all know that I have emailed http://lancershop.com inquiring about some items that they sell online that are of interest to me, and I am sure would also be of interest to all Evo owners.
For example, they have some very nice polished stainless steel 3 inch downpipes in the US$180-300 range, and top of the line HKS and Greddy exhausts, including the titanium models, for under $US900!
There is also a gorgeous centre dash gauge cluster pod that replaces the factory stereo location and allows you to fit triple gauges in it's place. It looks better than factory and (minus the gauges of course) costs US$175.00! They also sell a 'stereo relocation kit' that lets you move the stereo down where it should be. It's also cheap as chips at US$70.
You would go a long way to beat those prices, even when converted.
I have been pretty bold in my email and asked them if they can do any better on their prices considering they would be shipping to Oz, and that several owners from a very small pool may be happy to buy from them if the price is right.

I'll let my father know about those parts, if he gets an Evolution VIII he might be interested. He will definately be interested in returning the car to it's original performance spec so these parts could be what he wants.
The downpipe is from the turbo to the cat and the exhausts are mostly cat back right? So with the downpipe and cat back it ends up being turbo back?

Correct Aston.
A turbo-back HKS/Greddy/Apexi exhaust will set you back over 2K here for even the basic system, AFAIW. So buying from the US may get you the same system for about $1400.00 Australian, landed.
The only thing is that the systems generally don't include a CAT, being CAT back, and the front pipe ends at the CAT, so thats something to keep in mind. I bought a 3 inch CAT about 8 years ago, and it was nigh on $500!
The Evo CAT might be big enough to leave it standard, or just bash the insides out of it, or delete it...........
I will let you know what the response from them is regardless.

The standard cats on most cars is fine to joint to any system which is running high power. The only problem is the dimensions (ie it will fall short). The exhaust system package we have just about developed includes a dump pipe and front pipe (identical to the HKS model), 3' high flow cat and 3.5' catback piping. The muffler is a halfya-f1 spec. Every single piece of the exhaust system including the internal is stainless. Has a lifetime warranty aswell. Pricing i'm still not sure of.

I'll just say that your prices are going to have to be seriously competitive to get my business, rjhug1.
I generally only buy off importers, and then only if I can buy things cheaper than retail. If I can't do that, I import myself.
I can get a full 3 inch stainless turbo-back system, including custom stainless dump pipe, for US$870.00 - about A$1220.00. Add say 280.00 freight and duty/GST, it still comes in around the $1500.00 mark.
Perhaps some people don't like the screwing around and odd overseas phonecall, but it doesn't bother me!

Thats fine, but i pride all my gear on outright quality and performance. Been working in this for years and know what works and what is junk. If your focused primarily on price then perhaps its not what your after and are quite happy with other second grade gear. I'm not really interested in offering products that undercut anything on the market, much prefer to state that what we have isthe best quality and best performing. No way can i market something that is full stainless steel against a mass produced mild steel product, that pure maths. But i wont settle for anything but the best and i know many people wont, which is what we are targeting. I remember when competing against the likes of APS and our kit was about $360 more. Yet it produced about 37kw more, was better quality and had miles better customer feedback yet the odd person still jumped at the dollar factor.

It sounds to me like you are interested in offering us top of the line gear, but that you intend for us to also pay top of the line prices. Any speed shop can supply HKS and Greddy gear and charge like hell.
There are bargains out there to be had that will do the job just fine and satisfy me. I'm not going to be getting into dyno-wars with fellow Evo owners, and go by what feels fast under my bum.
I don't know about other people, but I find it really disconcerting that you constantly put down other companies to seemingly boost your own prowess.
I spent just on $8000 on my APS R/T kit for my WRX, and it more than satisfied me. The kit included a frickin' huge front mount, full silicon piping, Unichip, VF22 turbo, custom intake setup with the cool air feed in the front guard, custom dump pipe, and full 3 inch system including stainless muffler. Price included a VERY professional install, which took 2 days. I went from 94kW atw, to 142.2kW atw. I informed Croydon RD that we didn't have 98 octane fuel in my town at that stage, but a few months later, Optimax arrived. I went back to CRD, and they retuned the car, for free, and it made 156.6kw atw. And all of this was completely ADR legal, and I carried the paperwork to say so. I was never pulled over by the cops about my car.
I bought the APS kit not based on price, but based on several other owners that had the same kit, who I knew, and MOTOR's review on the exact kit I purchased. It was one of the first 'Hot Tuners' features they did. They loved it, and criticise where it's due.
Can I suggest that you submit your car to someone like MOTOR to do a feature on it? If they rate it as much as you seemingly already do, and it's value for money, i'm sure everyone will be making a beeline to your door.
What guarantees are you making to prospective owners? Can we all come and test drive your car to see what we think? Like me, you're just someone on a internet forum at the moment, and i'm pretty wary of that.
Forgive me if you've already posted this, but what workshop do you represent anyway?

I find that a big call when you havn'nt seen any specs or prices yet. If your buy a $70k car and your looking for bargains with aftermarket parts then so be it. We are apexi dealers and will supply all parts at the best pricing available. I dont put down other companies at all but try to emphasis how and what we have to offer that exceeds the opposition, its called business.
We have 3 mags that will do a review on the packages so stay tuned if you want to see what they say. I have been working in this trade for years. Been working for mobil then mclaren forumula 1 alongside david coulthard and kimi raikonen for 5 years. As far as gauranetees, its all covered by a lifetime warrenty (try find that anywhere). All upgrades and further tuning is free of charge. I gaurantee that nothing can provide better quality. Nothing will surpass the performance. Dont worry you'll be the forst to know what is available. If your been down the APS road, i dont know what your pushing the $ to performance factor. I'll let you know soon dude.

i'm sure we all have our opinions... lets not argue and accept each others differences, cause we're all evo brothers =)
Just wondering rjhug1: why have a 3" cat and then have a 3.5" inch exhaust... shudn't u have a 3.5" cat then??? cause wouldn't the 3" cat restrict making the 3.5" inch exhaust usless??
and can somebody tell me why hks only has a 2.75" dump.. and no 3" dump... ARGH!
