I'd like to rebutt that. The SS is a great car. Full of power, yes. The official specs and times on the EVO are way off, I am very sure of that. The WRX standard has a power of 168kw, but fractionally lighter. The official times are 0-100 in 5.7. These cars are slower than the pre MY01 model.
The reason I say this is that a standard WRX can and does out run an SS commo in a straight line. Part of it is down to the launch. Cody Crocker has been able to get a standard STI to do 0-100 in 5.3 sec.
Getting to the point. The EVO as a stock car is faster than the WRX and should be than the STI. Therefore the EVO can out run the SS in a traffic light grand prix

The usual disclaimer works here though - being a 8 vs a 4 the SS will easily blast past the WRX and Evo past 180km/h - no probs there.

I doubt that the times quoted but mitsubshi are that far off i have a motor mag (march 2002) which they compare the 02 STi, 01 EVO 6.5 TME and a 02 JDM EVO 7 (iam sure the 7 would be close to oz spec car as the 7 had the 5 speed)
times quoted from Motor

STi 0-100kph in 6.26 0-400mtrs in 14.14@157.9kph
EVO 6.5 0-100kph in 5.56 0-400mtrs in 13.58@170.0kph
EVO 7 0-100kph in 6.70 0-400mtrs in 14.38@159.1kph

but saying that on paper the normal wrx should beat the new evo which i doubt is true.

Figures are just that. There are so many conflicting numbers out there, but the ones that you posted from motor mag are way way off. Which mag was that? I want to know so I not buy it

The official times on the official press for all of those cars are way way off to those above. The STI does 5.7 on the official subaru times and i know of plenty stock STIs that do around the 13.6 mark the 400m strip.

Once again figures are figures and as long they are all relative to each other it makes no differnece at all.

Like many on here I am sure, I will be bench marking my stock Evo against a few Stock STIs to see what the real differences are. Only time will tell. I DID have my car booked for a dyno run on the 24th of July against a stock STI and WRX, but alas the car will be lucky being here by then

As far as the 3' cat, this would be used as i'm not even aware of a 3.5' cat made. But like evo8du said, it would make little difference. The cat would therefore be an extenion of the front pipe as such. The gains from 3' to 3.5' are minor untill you start making serious power, but it allows the potential and it also has a different sound from experience. The GT-spec (apexi) and evo2 (trust) exhausts are 3.75 and 3.7' respectively from the catback. As far as the dump pipe, it will be due to the way it tapers from the turbo. I'm presuming if it were 3', then it may create turbulance at low revs because of the way it tapers in.

I have that motor mag with the black evo VII. One thing it does say is that the car is near new and has a super tight engine which is why it wasn't as fast as it should be. I can tell you right now the evo7 leaves the sti for dead as far as performance. THX1138; i was flicking through a copy of FF's and sore you car at the back in a perth wrx feature.

Cheers mate. Which mag was that? Fast Fours or Hot 4s? There is definately supposed to be a feature in one of them Always fun and good to see when you start something years ago and it grows into something you can be proud of. Now only if my business could be as successful

The Evo leaving an STI for dead, now that's what I want to hear!!!!!

Go the new revolution!!

Sorry i said it was ff's, but it might have been hot 4's. There is a gda and rx8 on the front with 20's. I'm sure it would be cool to see something you've created turn into a success. It was a feature looking in the the rex culture and club over their in wa. As far as evo7 V GDB sti, the evo7 destroys what the sti is shocking at - low rev torque. The evo has something like 96% of its torque come on by 2000rpm and the sti has nothing untill about 4000rpm. Had a client who fitted an HKS GT-3037s and that was an incredable car. Would love to have that turbo but its to much cash for me. The t05 is fine anyways!! I say that cause i have no choice.
As far those figures being far off withth evo8 cause of the article, its drawing a long bow i must admitt. As soon as i sore the 6.1 number i started thinking of the cars that are close to that figure. And of course, the s15 which i have driven alot is around that mark. The evo7 absolutely blows the s15 to bits. Although the s15 is faster than it feels, it has no where near the omph of the evo. If i was to predict a fig for the evo8, based on the gda sti, i would say about 5.3sec.

The WRX culture over here is massive, and I am happy to have helped start it. Now it's time start one for the EVOs! HAHAHA (insert evil laugh)

Yeah, I am definately looking forward to the low down torque!
The sti is kinda like, foot to the floor, get a cup of coffee, and then bang you're off.

The TD05 should be a good up for autokhanas and the4 such. Also the EVO8's SAYC is supposed to have be tuned for Autokhanas in its programming aswell. mmmmm nice!

Great news - well not the greatest but still good, can't get the grin of my face....

Just got back from the dealer - the Red EVO VIII was in, not mine, again I'll leave it up to that person to fill you in, however what a car. Obviously I'm just talking looks here but what a good start. It is so much better than the pictures. It is a great looking fat, wide, rally looking car in the flesh...awesome actually. I have been a WRX driver for a number of years now and the EVO is in a different league. By coincedence on my way back the latest model STI went past - absolutley confirmed my above comments, the STI is yesterday, the EVO is here and it's awesome. Can't stress enough - so much better than the pictures...

Dealer made some interesting comments on satellite tracking ie did not have the full story on how it was going to work yet...this confirms some of the previous comments regarding problems with the alarm stuff. Not sure at this stage if this will delay delivery...

I also just got back from the dealer :-)

Yes the red evo in adelaide looks good. Hope to pick it up on friday, depending on how well the tinting, sat tracking etc goes.

Grrrrrrr!!! Every state except victoria seems to have their's. The anticipation is beyond the joke.

BTW, anyone see the new mitsubishi adds lately. There is one just on the evo with heaps of rallying and some scenes from 'fast and the furious' and even 'GT4'. Really cool add. And another with ed ordinsky talking about mitsubishi and their future. Not sure what they would advertise a car that is unavailable?? These were during the french GP last night.
