Virtual Dyno - Standalone Software
in one of the older excel versions i have been using there was a tab for "vehicle list" in this tab you were able to input a new car (gear ratios, drag coefficient) great for cars not yet supported. In the latest version is there a way to add more test vehicles? I see that you can edit the vehicles already supported but only the tire diameter, final drive and weight. I would love to graph my non supported vehicles with the latest version (boost and afr to match the power graph would be SO very nice.)
I would love to add the info to an excel sheet for you if you wish to add the vehicles on a future release.
thanks for the great work!

Tunermt: you know this program is not affiliated with Virtual Dyno Room (VDR)? I have never had anything in excel.
So Im confused by this statement. This is an actual stand alone application that doesnt rely on excel at all. It is written in a language called C#.
Ziad: Yes you can edit the cars.xml to add your car if its not listed. I am continually adding new vehicles so if you want me to add it just be patient but if you need it now just edit the cars.xml. If you need help with that just let me know and I can tell you how.

barnhill it might be easiest to add a screen for users to add custom cars in. they can email u with the details for the next release. i have it on my program as the first thing i put it. many people dont like editing xml. but for the others editing xml is quite easy.
Brad and I both have a desire to make this dyno very very UN manipulative, so that it can be trusted as much as a real DYNOJET is.

jay.... the xmls as part of the exe so they cannot be changed....... is soo 19th century. (i did CompSci in 2000-2002 and even then they were telling me not to hard code the data
again sorry i dont want to step on toes, just my opinion. but you cant make it fool proof as what is stopping ppl doing downhill or down stream of wind (tail wind will increase hp and headwind will decrease hp).

Ehh its not really my desire to make it "unmanipulative" but there are just some of the XMLs that dont really need to be fooled with by 'human' hands.
Ziad: hahaha ... Im not going to hard code anything. You can build data files into the executable and have them stored in memory instead of on the hard drive, or Im thinking it can ... what do I know. Im only a software engineer turned nurse.
If anything I go overboard NOT hardcoding anything.

For anyone familiar with LEAN Manufacturing, you get used to the phrase "Answer the question before its asked". We do that a lot with signs,symbols,etc...at my work and I think its good practice for everything really. It does add clutter at times which makes it a challenge but it keeps people honest. When I first made VDR, I got SICK of the first reply after anyones post of a snapshot being "Was this a 5-speed or 6-speed, tire size entered, what weight did you enter, how much smoothing did you use, What correction factor,etc...
In a perfect world you want the user to post a snapshot and the only replies would be comments and not questions. Wanna take it further? Add a comment bar so the user can list the mods on the car because we all know thats the next question to be asked
You can even add a section to let everyone know whether the user is a MD,candy striper, CNA or RN (sorry, I had to make one little joke...last one I swear...good profession).

at some point you have to draw the line on what to put in the program as necessary and just plain overkill (aka. feature creap) You only have so much real estate.
Jack do you still dress up in womens clothes?

You better believe it! Why hide this sexy figure of mine?lol.
As for the displayed parameters...it's a tough balance of 'just enough' and 'too much'. Sometimes it's good to cross that line so you know where it is in the sand though, then take a step back. You'll be on revision 1.9.7 in no time anyways (nature of the beast) so you can always get feedback from the users that will help you decide what isn't important for them to know.
