Need some input, guys.

Does the EF4 really spool as slow as it appears on some of these graphs? I'm going to be sending my IX turbo out for an upgrade (the sky is the limit), but would like to use a MAP product if it fits the bill nicely. Is there any wheel clipping options or anything you guys are doing to get the turbo to spool faster? If I'm not seeing full boost by 41-4200 I really don't see the lag worth the extra power up top.

Any thoughts?

Mine does being I have a different cold side. I have one of the first ef4's when they beta tested so mine does yes. Doesn't help I am on stock block and my tq curve is drawn out to help save the motor so yes mine seems laggy. Chris stated earlier in another thread they changed the cold side to a different cover and it helps alot with the turbo smart wga.

Look at Levar's dyno graph. He has a pump graph up with a 2.4L and EF4. If I remember correctly it wasn't that bad for spool.

Steven David - He is close to me and you Bob. Do you want me to see if he can come hang out with us one day and take you for a ride in his car? He has a 2.4L and a EF4.

This is the chart that scared me the most (Levar's, taken from his build thread).

25psi is achievable by 4000rpms and full boost by 4300-4400 with a 2.4L, but you should look at torque instead 300ft/lbs around 3800 and 400ft/lbs around 4200 makes for a fun ride!

Please sir, don't base your purchase off of one result. There are so many variables that come into play here...

Chris is right, there are many factors involved. In my case, I believe the culprit was a terrible exhaust leak pre-turbine (that I thought were lifters needing to be replaced) that increased the spool of the EF4. This graph is also (I believe) the second run with E85 in the tank and I was getting uncomfortable with pushing the single Walbro 255lph fuel pump. All things considered (exhaust leak and all), the spool was not an issue for me. I am just after a turbo that can still easily achieve 500whp+ and push my power band to the left a tad. The EF4 is a BEAST without question but I would never be able to fully unlock its full potential.

Chris, thanks for the response. Your first post is my goal with the turbo. I want to run this bad boy, don't get me wrong. I'm just making sure it's not going to end up feeling like my previous standard 35r .

And agreed about the TQ. I'll be in contact .

Yikes, yea don't go off that graph LOL.

I'll get a hold of Steven now and see if he still has the EF4 on the car.

If you want 500WHP on E85, but are concerned about spool/response, get the EF3.

/agree

the EF4 is the 500whp pump gas turbo or 600whp+ E85/race gas turbo.

Well, that's why I'm asking, cuz I'm the 500whp on pump kinda guy .
