the manifold has 2 bolts and 2 studs that hold the turbo on. have you ever even pulled yours apart? nothing wrong with using 4 bolts instead of 2.

I'll give you a ride after the 9th... but for the most part, it feels like a stock turbo, surge free, up to about 4-4500rpm. Then more like a smaller GT30.

Ditto, keeping fingers crossed that my install goes as planned tomorrow and then in the afternoon on the dyno. Will be posting before and after numbers to try to give a good account of what this thing can do. Then have to drive it back to San Antonio from Austin so I should have a good feeling for it by then.

Keep you all posted.......

I guess you would suggest all four studs then right?
Ditto,

I have been doing it this way for years to with NO problems. Knyght is correct it makes taking the manifold out alot easier going forward.

I wouldn't use 'screws' either. Bolts rather

And yes I have, my talon is a daily driven and a weekend warrior at the strip. It sees traps speeds above 120 all day long, and I bet you I could go out right now and take out a bolt with nothing but a gear wrench. Dont push your previous problems with bolts when the clear and easier solution is available, and probably cheaper.

Fact is that the OE 'studs'/'nuts' and 'bolts' are made of the same material. They both rust. The casting of the exh housing rusts, it's inevitable. I've seen more studs get stripped than bolts snapping. Why do you think european corporations like BMW/Benz are using bolts instead of studs/nuts to attach their wheels to the hubs?

When it comes to torque specific applications such as converting to head studs instead of bolts, I would agree that they 'hold' more and stretch less. But we aren't taking about heads, and the turbo to manifold bolts dont need to be 80 foot pounds..

For 99.99% of the world (the .01% being you and some other "hyper extreme performance racers) bolts work just fine for turbo to mani, and it's ALOT easier to take the mani off.

plus , you gotta realize the compressor housing needs work too..not just bolt on the wheel and your done..
I have a GT3076 sitting here. I am considering getting one of these. Poeple say Lag is overrated its not! I am going to wait for dyno and road results and for the price to go down a couple of dollars before getting one.

I have pulled mine out about 10~15 times not joking. You are wrong the turbo turbine side has 4 studs and 4 nuts not screws. There are no screws between the manifold and the turbo all studs and nuts.

Let's all play nice guys. Ok so to those that are advocates of using heat treated bolts from the mani to the turbo, where do you get yours and what do you recommend as far as using to replace the 2 factory studs connecting the o2 housing to the turbo since their is a clearance issue when you attempt to use bolts there?

Hmmm my stock turbo has 2 bolts and 2 studs manifold to turbo, maybe the ATP is different.

Stick with the factory fasteners. You can replace the lower right stud on the o2 housing side of the turbine housing w/ a bolt, but I think Mitsu put a stud there since that hole is a thru hole which goes into the exhaust path. I put a stud back into that location.

As far as converting the manifold to turbine housing studs to bolts. Just order two more of the same bolts. This is assuming you're using the stock manifold.

Hey guys,

The recomended hardware usage is as follows;

Turbine inlet - skip the studs and purchase two of the OEM bolts that are used. Upon installation use 4 of the OEM bolts instead of 2 studs and 2 bolts. It is easier to use 4 OEM bolts for R&R of the turbo. Studs complicate things, and the OEM bolts are the strongest high carbon nolts you will find anywhere.

Turbine outlet - Reuse the three OEM bolts and get two new studs so you don't have to bother taking the old studs out of the old housing. Removing old studs is a black art and most have not mastered it.

We have all the hardware you could need and usually ask during the order taking process if you want it, most people who have ordered the turbo have also ordered the hardware at the same time. Few have shipped without the option replacement hardware, but it would seem that those few are the ones taking in this thread

It is split, some guys laugh and say "hell no, I dont need no stinking hardware" and the rest say "yeah, I want that hardware" you can do the job either way, it is up to you.

Heh I was one that didn't think about the optional hardware and man it was a nightmare trying to reuse all the stock stuff. Take Robert's advise and get it!
