If I were to tighten the wastegate spring a little bit so it stays closed longer would I be able to hold boost more??

yes, but you should only tighten it if its prematurely blowing the flapper open.

Are you running the 25psi wastegate? I'm running the 25psi on my stock IX turbo. Here is the comparison between the stock wastegate and the 25psi https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/7314465-post62.html

In order to get the correct preload on the wastegate we had to cut 3 threads off the arm so that the turn buckle would preload enough. I'm holding 24.5lbs at 7k on my stock turbo. You should be around 27-30lbs if you are running 35+lbs on the red. I believe there is someone on the forums that I saw running 37lbs spike tapper to 30lbs. Also the higher the spike the more boost you should be able to hold out the top. Just remember even though you may hold more boost out the top doesn't mean you will make more power. You need to watch the shaft speed because is you over spin the shaft you will plateau and start to loose power because you are destroying the efficiency of the turbo. Not to sure what the shaft speed is on the Red but the HTA Green i believe was 153k. Here is the post that Scott as FP made. I would talk to him about the Red if you want to know all the mathematical specs and limitations. https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/7352513-post21.html

Crank down your wastegate and it should help you hold more boost.

That really depends on what boost levels you are trying to achive. The wastegate is designed to spike 25psi "theroreticaly". Meaning that it should open earlier than 25lbs to start bleeding boost.

On my car we cranked the turnbuckle all the way in and it didn't look that preloaded so we cut 3 threads off and turned the turnbuckle down a few more turns. With it fully preloaded (meaning 3 extra threads cut off) I was spiking 29lbs without a boost controler. Just food for thought.

great mod IMO

Why cut when you can just add washers and shim it?

added: btw do you know the apexi n1 is restrictive as hell? It dips down
as low as 2" in diameter where the resonator is. I actually cut the resonator
in half before on the catback because an sos pad got clogged up in there and
to my surprise it was restrictive as hell. This was on a 2g dsm, but the evo
setup looks very similar in restriction.

You don't want to push the turnbuckle out more. You want to turn in down more, towards the wastegate itself. The turnbuckle should be a ***** to get on the flapper!

You are correct. I only have the N1 exhaust though. My 3in exhaust line is a custom bent straight through 3in w/o a cat or resonator.
