ATTN: FP Red & Black Users - What You Need to Know About Oil
I didn't see it mentioned in this thread, so I just wanted to give the info for Amsoil SSO-0w30. I personally think a 0w-30 is going to be better than a 10w-40 for most people reading this with stock motor, daily drivers.
Zn/P for Amsoil SSO 0W-30 (what I use) is 1183/963 from a VOA here.
The TBN is low for what it's supposed to be and from other UOAs I have seen, but nonetheless, it's a VOA and some good information on the oil. I think it's a very good oil for a daily driven, stock motor Evo. I personally run it on my 400/400 stock turbo daily driver running E85.
A higher viscosity oil will cause more harm than good, especially at startup, where most of the wear will come from. A racing oil with no detergents is simply a bad choice, unless you make your living racing your Evo and rebuild the engine frequently. It really matters what you are using your car for. Just use the oil that best fits that application as well as fits the requirements as to FPs statement, if you're running their turbos.

- The ZDDP package for the SSO is higher than what you posted, you are posting ZDDP levels for a used oil after UOA's at the lab, pour it right out of the bottle and the levels are higher.
SSO 0W30 is the strongest oil we have, is meant to be abused, high ZZDP, high detergent package,,,,,
ill place this oil against any oil out there mano a mano it will take any oil down

- Racing oils do have SOME detergents not to the level that the others do, however if you change your race oil often enough you dont need to worry about dirty engines, or oxidation.
Finally got a chance to read through this thread...I used Mobile 1 10w-30 for 20k miles or so and I've used Royal Purple 10w-30 for the past 30k+...When my head was off to do headstuds and all my timing belt stuff the motor looked great...BUT my FP Red did go out on me in 3k miles or so while using the Royal Purple...oh well...Now I am running a CBRD BBK Full turbo...I think it may be time to switch to AMO 10w-40 oil at my next oil change...

, ive been eating burgers for a while now and i have slight colesterol. saying that, so and so its been running X brand oil for 10,000 K proves little. On the other hand, the reason for this thread is so when you ask 200 people they can narrow down the best oils out there and not have 200 different opinnions,,, and i don't have to mention the top notch oils that are out there because i think the members are becoming more educated on what oil they should use lately with this thread and one other thread that i can recall.
Very good data has been shared from many folks, Ted B, myself, FP, Mobil, that should help you guys narrow it down.
