Some current oil analysis info, ongoing testing.
It is ok, but depending on how much you top off the oil in your engine will be that much less a full syn running through your engine. Why are you topping off a full synthetic oil with semi syn?
I also duno where the oil goes as ive to top up regularly after hard driving.
No sign of oil from the exhaust muffler, oil pan & no smoke either.
Just wanted to make a contribution. This is a stock motor w/ 50kmi running hta green for about one year (27psi, 400whp). This oil sample is Amsoil HDD 5w30 and was put in the motor at the same time the green was installed. Only put about 2500 mi on, but the oil sat in the car for a full year from April '11 - April '12. I don't drive the car in winter but start it up about once a week and drive it back and forth in my garage and driveway until oil reaches ~180*F. OEM filter, stock oil feed. Ran the car on the highway prior to collecting the sample per Blackstone's instructions...

This oil has done well and still has high zddp after a full year. Didn't ask for TBN since I'm not looking to extend drain intervals. The copper is interesting...greens have (I believe) brass on steel thrust bearings. The FP stock upgraded turbos in general are known to wear out thrust bearing rather quickly. Curious if anyone else has some experience with higher than normal copper readings. Very happy to see no antifreeze in the oil since I'm still on stock head bolts and sometimes worry about running my current boost level.
For this year I'm trying Z-rod 10w-30...supposedly has great metal wear protection....we shall see.

Thanks to all who post data. I am curiouse as to how the zrod sample will look, not sure if you intended to send one in.

I havent been as active in this thread as I have wanted to be lately. Im getting my new build going, a 2.3 bottom end with a EF3 turbo.
One other question... MAP lists a few recommended oils for their turbos. Im also gonna be switching go E85 with the new build. Is either z rod or dominator e85 compatible?
There is no "best" in the sense of best for ALL. Best is relative to your setup, what you are doing with the engine racing wise or just dd. Budget, engine build internal clearances, etc.
There is lots of info on the first page, and I do plan on organizing it a little better (soon). Point is, there are UOAs that show how brand x oil reacts with a car on e85, high boost, or longer drain intervals, etc.
These samples show what oils are doing ok with alternate fuels, high boost, long drain intervals, etc., then you will now be a little more enlightened as to which oils are proven to work. Now from those proven you can make your own choice as to which brand you prefer to run in your car.
For one persons setup a 20w50 oil may be the best, for someone else a 10w30 may be the best.

ah. sounds good. i'll do more reading then. makes sense. i just bought the car. she's stock. will be doing auto-x and track days. mostly daily driving. not sure i need to go crazy on all that.
a guy on NASIOC did a bunch of research on the Walmart Full Synthetic. all the tests came back saying it was as good as any off-the-shelf full syn (mobil 1, royal purple, etc). this was for the subaru engine, though.
any thoughts or has that been discussed.
or, since i'm keeping it simple for now, i should just stick with what's on the oil cap sticker?
i hate when people ask what's been answered a million times...but man. this thread is LONG. LOL
How does the zrod compare to dominator series as far as zppd zmounts?

I would get Zrod all day long over dominator. They have very similar ZDDP levels.
But there are some who preffer the dominator, the only reason would be because they want a thinner 30 and desire to have the max anti wear additive available! And dominator holds up to alcohol fuels better than others.
I'd still do zrod
