I am looking R/T, quick turn around time and reasonable cost. There is going to be a lot of new parts required to make all this work and hold up to what I need.

Original pinions would brake with stock 220 hp and also this is the reason we have limited boost in 1st gear from the factory on our cars.

Something else to improve while you are making new planetary....

quote:

"See the holes on the original part ? The ones used to clip the plastic ring...
They are closed on the new part.

Oil comes from the center gear, which has tiny holes between the teeth, satellites gears run on it and are oiled this way.

Oil in excess will flow and accumulate close to the plastic ring (more oil will accumulate thanks to the new design), as this area forms a cavity with the main gear of the box (this gear has a matching leak-proof ring on it).
On the original satellite holder oil will leak through the clipping holes before it can reach the pinion oiling hole (remember original pinions have a single centered hole).
On the new satellite holder the clipping holes are closed, so the oil can accumulate and get to the pinions oiling holes."

btw. guy making these parts is from France

Thanks for the info Kutija. Where are you from? Your screen name is very interesting to me because it very similar to some of my ancestors but they were German.

Looking at my planetary, I was fairly certain the pins broke first, what you are telling me is that's what you guys think happened to yours too.

Nice work, this will be cool as hell once the kinks are worked out! Awesome that BR & ER are working together on this, we need more collaboration like this in this community!

Hi.
It's just a nick name I use on forums
If you translate it from Croatian to English it means box ( carton box, crate, etc. )

I'm from Croatia ( one of republics of ex. Yugoslavia)

Anyway I'm preety sure your pinions broke first as this is always the case.
As far as you can see on the pictures you posted on facebook holes on the cage were disorted so this is also what happend on my planetary gear.
Also if you are making stronger planetary I would make bigger/more robust ring gear on the planetary if it's possible.

These planetary has been holding 500+ hp without problem.
I just don't know if there is a difference in load since you planetary in auto gearbox and I have them in the transfer box.

Also we had problems with output shaft from gearbox and input shaft from transferbox.
the guy from France solve this problems also but the price is pretty high.

Here are some more pics of parts:

here's the new generation of planetary he made....

"Final weight: 2020 g, instead of original 1100 grams.
That's close to 1 kg more of strong steel, for an ultra-stiff structure.

Recalling that original plastic rings are discarded (now included in the cage body), for more stiffness and torque transfer capacity.
Dimensions have been reworked tightly to get the most compact cage; see the satellite gears, the cage has been machined as little as possible to make room for them ! "

old setup

new setup

quote:
"See the thickness of the teeth and how they take place in the VCU teeth; there's almost no play when compared to original setup."

That is some INCREDIBLE work there! I wish he was here in the USA and willing to take this job on, I'd be there with my checkbook!

I don't want to get too excited but I think we are onto something new over here. We may end up going a different route on the transmission we use, we have to get one apart we just picked up and then have some parts built but if the internal are improved like we think then it's the way to go. It's going to require some CNC work but in the end may be better.

As soon as Vince has the time he's gonna call me so I can run this over to his shop, tear it apart and get an idea of what we have.

Interesting project you have going on here, I read most of this morning and just finished up now. I hope you turn that Iphone to shoot some video next time its up and running again, I'm sure everyone would like to watch the tachometer and acceleration with the auto trans setup in a very high powered street car.

Just one question, if/when you do hit your 8 second 1/4 mile goal with this car will it still count? ;]

Dave I'll send you a list of contacts to which you should send RFQ's to. Do you have completed cad models and drawings?

I will try to get video for sure. Yes, of course if/when the car runs 8's it would count, why wouldn't it?
