New times with BR clutchless 4 speed
Well............................hahaha, I guess we are back to the drawing board.
For those of you that don't follow us on Facebook, which oddly we seem to post there more than anywhere now-a-days, here is what's happened since the car broke.
I have one complete unit down in North Carolina with my good friend Matt Smith. He tried the first unit we built (same thing English is using) and him and I both exploded them. In the short time the two of us tried that trans though we new we were hooked. So Matt got the first trans of this type we finished and put it in. For some reason it didn't work. Myself, Dave and my son Zachary were to leave here today and drive to N.C. to take two more transmissions with us to put into his car and then race tomorrow down there with Matt's car.
Yesterday I unloaded my car from my trailer so I could clean up all the trans fluid all over the floor. While doing it Dave told me he was awfully curious about what broke and that we should pull the trans out. I had no desire. Well him and I work awfully well together and before you knew it the car was on jack stands just to pull the oil soaked slicks off and wash them and then off came an intercooler pipe...........next thing you know the trans is on the floor.
I was going to let the trans sit until next week. I washed my hands and walked to my desk. A few minutes later I went to find Dave and found he was still back by my car and the trans was apart on the floor.
It is VERY clear what happened. There is absolutely no doubt in our mind what failed and luckily for us (at this point anyway) it is a part we had to have made anyway. I've said in the past we have to have some casting work done and the primary part that failed was the actual casting we need to have built. At this point though the thought of casting the part has changed and to a solid machined billet. I do believe that this is nearly a blessing to be honest as I was having a hell of a time finding used transmissions and have many thousands of dollars invested in buying them, supply was an issue. With this obvious failure it will simply move the project into the next phase, which I was avoiding.
I never intended to NOT use this trans in my own car, I won't go back to a manual trans as I've stated. I did intend to not sell them to anyone else though and keep the information to myself. This breakage has now put my mind back into production/sale mode and we will end up with a MUCH STRONGER transmission with NO price increase from what I can tell right now.
Patience will be the issue now. Matt has found a company for us to work with that can machine this from billet and that process will be getting started soon.
I have to thank you guys for keeping me motivated.

Thanks everyone. Matt and I were discussing the new parts and while doing so we came up with some good ideas. If we can get them implemented it's going to make this very strong.
