Im sure FP knows this is a ridiculous amount of changing and new stuff, they should definitely change the descriptions and give exact specs of everything. That way you know exactly what your are ordering.
I agree. Now I'm scrambling to make this thing work and spending money I don't have in the budget. Had I known I wouldn't get the smaller turbine, I would have figured something else out.
Live and learn, I guess. $1000 mistake by $1000 mistake.

Blah, nothing worse than getting a runaround, when I ordered it I was told parts were in stock and should be built in a week or so. Called last week and they still were not working on them should be ready in about a week. Called again today and once again going to be another week or so. The wait is always the worst part. 6 weeks without a turbo now.

This is why when I needed a turbo from FP last year (my 9 turbo blew up), I ordered what they had in stock. They had an assembled red and a green for me to pick from, and a machined MHI turbine housing ready to port, put on the turbo, and ship. My order processed and shipped in 3 days. No waiting game for me

Right now, if I had the money, I wouldn't mind testing the FP54 with a fully ported turbine housing (like what CBRE does). But I don't have the cash laying around...lol. So I'll be waiting for results to be posted.

How to do you guys guys think this new turbo compares to the old BBK full jb? Is it worth upgrading to this?

Still interested in seeing some VD or some type of numbers with when the boost comes on and hp output. I have a 2.2 and wondering if I should stay with the red or jump on this.

It definitely flows more air. And it *should* be able to hit full boost below 4k

I have also been considering this.

I wish I could trade the bb red for the jb fp54 at this point to not have to deal with burning oil.

I'm only considering because I could likely make money on the transaction of selling my red and buying this turbo. And if it makes 32psi at 3800, I'll just a drop in 2.0L build with a ported head and call it a day. Much cheaper than a stroker build...lol

Think ball bearing is really needed? I'm sure there are threads on this but it's relevant in the current discussion. Would a ball bearing Red or Green hold up to abuse better than this turbo or likely not much difference?

BB will hold up to oil starvation better. That's about it. From looking a dyno graphs of th eold 73hta green with 65mm turbine, this turbo should see full boost below 4k. I just really want to see how the top end looks at this point...lol. And not being available in BB kind of sucks.

If it didn't make boost below 4k it would be a letdown imo. With S3 cams and a 73HTA I was hitting 30 psi just past 4k and I'm guessing this setup won't have the same top end power but we'll see when good dyno graphs start popping up.

Think if we put together a group buy we could convince FP to do a BB FP54?
