Mitsubishi heavy industries.. Meaning it's a factory (Mitsubishi) turbine housing.

Well, I just got a $1200 quote to fix my red so I ordered this. It will be a while before the car is ready but at least I have a new turbo for it.

Ouch. What did they say was wrong? I'm looking to buy a blown Green, but not if it's going to cost that much to fix. Not worth it.

I'm thinking so, too. I'm hoping the one i'm shopping has no damage to either wheel... though the delay in receiving pictures has me wondering LOL.

If I just found some play in my stock 9 turbo's shaft (in and out), would this be something to invest in while the MHI housing are available? With consideration that the green would fit my future needs

For you, it wouldn't matter; you already have the right MHI housing, so the shortage is a moot point. The only question I may have is if they will, eventually, stop doing machine work on MHI housings. I'm sure you have plenty of time to think about it.

It doesn't matter if his housing isn't cracked, which isn't uncommon.

Correct. It was on the car when I got it, I knew it was bad but not sure how bad. Ended up being .035 radial play an .032 axial play. Both wheels needed to be replaced as well as turbine housing needing machining. It was a no brainer to get a new turbo. Just a basic rebuild is around $400 from them though if it just needs to be refreshed.

I just had my original HTA Green rebuilt...wonder if the performance gain on a stock block will be worth it if I move to the FP54.

For 3lbs/min I think it is? I dunno. I hear (but can't confirm) the 54 flows as much as the old red, but with the smaller green turbine to help spool.
I would swap if it were easy and cheap. If it were gonna put you out, I'm not sure I'd worry about it, though. All the greens seem to be pretty danged awesome.

I have yet to check this out yet but I'm playing it on the safe side and just ordered a new FP54 Green with the MHI housing . So I may have a back up now if the other one is not cracked. Can't wait to see what this new turbo can do.

Thanks for the info guys.
