The dual flapper gate came on the evo 7 and 8 9.8cm2 housings, I would consider a ported 9,8cm2 housing on this turbo, and also came on a bunch of jdm evo 8mr 10,5cm2 housings.

I would swap if it were easy and cheap. If it were gonna put you out, I'm not sure I'd worry about it, though. All the greens seem to be pretty danged awesome.
Technically, the HTA Red flowed 59# a min. The new HTZ Red is a 61# a min turbo, and the new HTZ FP54 is a 57#/min turbo...but, the turbine is smaller and should spool better than the old HTA Green.

Thanks for the correction. I thought I read the old red was also 57lb/min. You are talking about the old MHI Red, correct? so, with only 2lb/min less than the old red and the smaller turbine from the "old green", I'm really, really hoping it's going to be the ultimate turbo for my setup.

The HTA Red was 59#. The old, old Red may have been 57...not sure

The new FP54 essentially looks like a BBK-B, minus the BB CHRA. So, on a 2.3 I wonder if the FP54 would have the non-linear power delivery that 94AWD (Jerry) reported with the BBK-B.

The thing that had me most interested was Robert @ FP reporting that even on bigger wheels (like the Red), there were no ill effects shown from using the smaller 9 blade wheel

I have been wondering this also. I am most likely going with a 2.4LR and have been looking at this turbo and wondering if a Red or possibly even Black wouldn't be better suited for that motor. Seems like it's appropriate to go up a turbo size to get similar low end power with a little more top end after a 2.2

Did you buy the turbo complete? If so, they are dual-flapper as someone mentioned above. Hm..

Mine that i sent them was single. I wonder if it will really matter.

This is very interesting. I haven't even gotten my engine built yet so I haven't taken my hta71 out of the box to put on the car and I'm considering this lol. Except that housing is going to crack at some point ..
I think I'd rather opt for something that was going to be solid for a lonnng time..

Unless the newer MHI housings have been beefed up any?

They all crack. It doesn't affect anything. The only reason we make a big deal out of it, is because once it's cracked FP won't machine it. They are still fine for rebuilds or a 71 HTA upgrade.

Your 71hta will crack the exhaust housing just the same. If you want make reliable m 500whp, you should consider an upgrade. The 71hta will be maxed out while this green walks always rom it...

I got my MHI hotside on my Red ceramic coated and then cryo treated just to see if it makes any (long term) difference

I wish I knew. I'd have mine done before the install.
A local guy does ceramic, but I'm not impressed with his. I did a set of pistons. Ran them for 100 miles and you could barely tell.

Send your hotside to Ruben at SoCalPorting. He'll coat it and port it and you will be happy.

Also, cryotreating is super cheap. Like $40 to $60. Can't hurt, right? THat's what I tell myself when I continue to spend money
