Does it prevent the actual 'symptoms' of the 'misfire' or just keep the 030x code from rearing its head as a CEL?

From what I have read on the Vishnu Forum, it stops the misifre from even happening.

Interesting... ... ... does it prevent ALL misfires or just this one, annoyingly ridiculously stupid faux misfire?

I don't know about keeping the creader on the 0bd2 port. If it's not reading 0300 cel it's not reading any cel or clearing it as it goes. I'm curious to see if it's in some diagnostic mode or something. Hope it's not running open loop all the time.

This is what I bought. Best 32 dollar shipped spent. I've been reading p0300 an 171 code and clearing! Happens at idle also.

I don't know for sure. I have only gotten one P0300 ever and it was at idle. So I have never really needed to buy one. The CReader is only $40 though.

I have an OBDII scanner plugged into my car at all times already. That's how I knew what code it was.

The White Rabbit turbo test car has a 0.18 plug gap to "prevent misfires" ... haven't tried that yet.

Anyway, I just purchased and installed the CReader OBDII scanner and have had 2 misfires with it. One didn't raise driveability symptoms. The second one did.

I'd have to go get the manual to be exact but, leaving it plugged in, it detects the code, records it (holds 4-5 last ones in memory), then clears it after so many seconds.

I was driving, felt the misfire, saw the light. I had to deal with the lift throttle, hit it a bit harder issue for a few seconds as I was driving and trying to maintain speed. Suddenly the problem went away. Looked down, no more light!

I'm in love!

i think I'm one of the UNlucky ones that has to deal with the misfire on a very consistant basis. I do a lot of driving, about 200 miles a day and 90% of it is highway... my car misfires more times then I can count. seriously its got to be over 200 times per day (at least once per mile). I am going to look into the code reader as a bandaid until can actually fix the problem but it looks like having the code reader plugged in doesn't actually stop the misfires from happening.

Does anyone who misfires as sevearly as me us a code reader? does it stop the misfires?

You're not the only one bro, but you already know that.

Fortunately my commute is 0.3 miles so I don't have to deal with it when I'm already pissed off going to work in the morning.

I too have this problem. I noticed that it became worse with time........could it be that the coils or something in the ignition system is prone to going bad? I dont think it is the spark plugs b/c even after I changed them out I still got the misfire.

Unfortunately the CReader stays on even if you take the key out of the ignition. I don't know how much of a drain it would put on the battery. I'm assuming as much as a car alarm would?

None. AFAIK, the OBDII port is activated in the key 'ON' position.
