Warranty Help

Took our car in today for some warranty work, heater core cracked on Thursday and we're having some issues getting it into Reverse. Service manager has denied all warranty claims on the car and voided warranty on every single part with exception to the radio. Car is modded, but nothing out of hand, stock turbo, stock intercooler, stock internals. I could maybe understand them not warranting the transmission for aftermarket mods, eventhough it is not a forward gear, but the heater core, come on..... We referenced the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act and his explanation is that he is 100% sure without a doubt that the aftermarket exhaust is directly related to our heater core cracking. And yes, he did put this in writing for the reason he has completely voided our warranty. We spoke with another dealership about 100mi from here, their service manager found the whole ordeal to be absolutely assanine and found no issues with taking care of the heater core AND the transmission (as long as there was nothing wrong with ANY forward gear). However, he cannot do it until the regional service rep releases the vin # for warranty work, whom we cannot get to return our phone call. She has spoken to the dealership countless times but will not call us to discuss the matter. What can we do?

My wing did the same thing. the dealer replace it with no problem!!

Did they state the exact reason why aftermarket exhaust may cause cracked heater core. Obviously BS because this is a first I heard and just about everone here has aftermarket exhausts.

Even though downright unlikely, they can probably prove that removing the factory heatshield can be the cause.

Best of luck

Aftermarket exhaust causing heater core cracking?

A heater core is only a small heat exchanger using coolant from the engine for heat...it has NOTHING to do with exhaust.

If they deny your claim, I would call a lawyer and stick it to them. Any number of service centers could testify that their deny was foul.

most everyone and every place i've heard/been to doesn't have a problem with Aftermarket exhaust as far as warranty work goes. I'd make sure to call a place first and ask them their policy before bringing any type of mods their way. Some people will straight up tell you over the phone if they give a damn about this or that? The ONLY mitsu dealer in my state is the only authorized warranty place for my car (ND). Just 2 months ago they replaced my entire engine AND turbo with no questions asked. They didn't give a crap about any mods done to the car. Didn't even ask me about it. Later, as i was about to drive away with a brand new engine, i asked the guy that did most the work what he thought about my mods. He said he was a big fan of DSM's and didn't make any notes in his paper work that i had any mods done what so ever! SWEET!

My dealer is in the process of painting my new spoiler now. It will be replaced free of charge. Keep in mind that the sides on your original spoiler were real carbon fiber. If you look closely, you can see the weave pattern through the paint. But the new spoiler will have white plastic sides that will be painted to match. All the IX's already come like that, it is the new design. The center is still real carbon though.
