2004 MY Evo | All Goes in Here. Anything and Everything. [All Threads MERGED]
That's great, but when are the 04s released?
That one huge thread about news/rumors related to the 2004 Evo is a mess of a thread, so I'd just like a clear answer here.
EVERY CAR BRAND, no matter how tight-lipped they are about what the upcoming products will contain, at the VERY LEAST, gives dealers (and from there, customers) the month in which the next model year will be out.
So come on, someone just answer if it will be a normal model year release (October-ish) or a very late one again like the 03s (February).

I doubt you'll be able to find a date in advance if/when they release 2004 models. Reasons being:
1. There's still product out for 2004, and the dealers want to get rid of that before they move on to new product. These are semi expensive pieces of material :P.
2. Mitsu and subaru are still having a pissing contest and after subaru snuck in and relased the sti with higher stats just after mitsu announced the north america evo release, i wouldnt be surprised if they did do a last minute relase for 2004 (if they change their stats on the car)

I believe the 2004 EVO will have the following changes.
1. ACD/AYC and 6 speed as an options which might bring the price to around $35k
2. New headlight
3. Possible power increase, they might even throw in the 2.4 liters from the railart.
These are just my assumption based on:
1. Mitsubishi brought in the EVO to compete with the 225hp wrx, not the STI. They down grade the JDM version of EVO VIII to keep the price competitive (under 30k). Now that they have seen the market for it, they will bring in the full blown version of EVO to satisfy more customers. And why not? It’s a mature technology and it’s not hard to add to the current version.
Plus they have already spend millions of dollars to promote this car (ad, sponser 2fast2furious..), the EVO is here to stay and will be the flag ship of Mitsubishi.
2. The head light of EVO VIII is the same as EVO VII, now that they came with the new head light design for all other lancer in the world already, it make sense the 2004 EVO will get the same head light.
3. They might increase the power or even use a bigger engine just for U.S market to keep up with the STI’s 2.5 liter engine. I was told that in Japan, there is a big tax (or regulation fee) difference between engine under 2.0 and over 2.0. That’s why the manufacture prefers making the car with engine less than 2.0 liters. But here in U.S we do not have the same problem. The other aspect to see it is that if Mitsubishi will be using Colt for WRC (which I believe they will, the EVO has not been doing well anyway), they don’t need to care about meeting the regulation of WRC rule. They can do whatever they want to make EVO the most powerful car on the street.
Cheers!

The "Evo 9" by hido7 is obviously a photoshoped version of the Evo 8 with headlights modified from the '04 Lancer. And what chinese are you talking about? Where are the pics with chinese? Speaking of China, the Lancer in Hong Kong is relatively the same as that of USDM. However, the exterior and interiors are only a bit more delicate and detailed.
I think hido7 was talking about these pages

I have also seen a similar photo in the Japanese auto magazine "Option".

wowo those pics are not photoshoped. ive seen them on two webiste back on this very thread on like page 4 or 5 or something. you people really need to go LOOK. the headlight on the evo9 concept is from a CONCEPT with lights from the new ralliart lancer that has already been released by Mitsu. as for this giant game of telephone i say get over it until they DO release it. then if you like ti you can buy it if not that get over it. simple as that. otherwise go suckoff the head of Mitsu NA and get him to tell you in person. sorry if i sound angry i just spent the last hour reading through all 15 pages of rumors and BS.

ohoh, that's not fake, wait......that's only a made-up picture

There are dependable messages indicate: in 2004, Mitsubishi will use their "Colt Evolution" to participate in WRC. In order to win WRC, it is necessary to develop EVO 9.
Since OCT.,1992, the first version of EVO was made....
....
Some data + some history
....
Today EVO 8 has 280PS/40.0kgm output, it's all time rival, WRX has an output 280PS/40.2kgm. So EVO9's first goal is to increase its power.
The exterior will use the "facelift" style.
Sure it is uglier than EVO7.( This is a direct translation. :P )
We shall find out more detail in the end of this year.

My 2004 Evo wish list:
Better material on Recaro seats.
Easier to read gauges.
Heavier duty pressure plate.
Retain 5 speed, maybe better linkage.
More luxury options.
Better quality paint.
Superchaged? So no turbo lag.

^^^ SUPERCHARGED!? whoa... thats just NEVER going to happen. Its more expensive, and more difficult to raise the boost on a supercharger as well. I"d rather just have a turbo and wait .2 seconds for my power... also, I have to say, before I even CONSIDER getting in the market for an evo I'm gonna have to see a stronger pressure plate on the clutch, and some proof that the transmission is going to last. Some people on this board are on their THIRD tranny already. I also want a cruise control. Thats would be a perfect Evo IMO.
