Well if the 04's aren't going to be here till April and they aren't going to offer any of the major shortcomings.. cruise control, ya know the other 2.. Might have to consider picking one up for a song in a couple weeks.

Dont know if this is old news or not, but I was going to pick up an 03 Evo this weekend, but I asked when the 04's were going to come out and they said they expect them in within a week or so. They are offering rebates on the 03's up to like $2K back and I was going to get it for invoice.

I am going to call some more dealers tomorrow and see what I come up with, i'd rather buy an 04 now since there are only a few weeks left in the year.

2004 evo

well, i've never seen such intrigue from an auto maker with regards to release date and specs for the introduction of the next model year of a pre-existing platform/generation.

perhaps mitsu doesn't even know... at least not completely.

definites, assuming the auto press has access to legitimate sources... and i'd assume Automobile Mag would since it gave the EVO top honors naming it 2004 COY... it's a respect thing... then we know there is definitely an rs version blessed with the front helical lsd, and yes an urban jungle option... although details of the package are conflicting.

we also know there will be the 'regular' EVO with at least two more options... leather for all you animal lovers, and instant deafness upgraded stereo .

but what's strange is, no dealer that i've contacted knows when the 2004s are coming... yeah 2004, but when?

in fact, as far as i know, there is yet a 2004 USDM EVO that has come off the assembly line...

maybe mitsu is deciding on final details, including colors (exterior, ? interior), options (really there is no reason why mitsu can't offer the helical lsd as an option for non-rs evos) and perhaps even the appearance and workings of the car (6sp, ayc, etc).,the later maybe likely if the technology or moldings are in place and mitsu is questioning whether the tooling change is worth it financially.

anyway, just my thoughts and integration of the info to date.... anyone know of 2004 JDM evos being made yet, specs?

I heard that Mitsubishi is discontinuing the Evo... or at least considering it. They are in financial trouble and are trying to cut back production, that's why the '04 rally car is the Lancer, and not the Evolution, because Mitsubishi has to make a production model of the rally car to meet WRC rules... so there isn't going to be a point for them to keep makin an Evo...

My wife called a few dealerships and found out this:

Mitsu in Japan has a bunch of MY03's still available so tehy are pushing these off to the dealers before they will start manafacturing the MY04's. This should be around Feb before they hit the line.

My thing is why not make them MY04's now since they are prety much anyways. I mean, it's already a year old and it was just made!!!

Wow discontinue... I dont blame them cause as popular as they are here you dont see a lot of them...

It was funny cause of all the ppl I've talked to *that being friends =P* all agreed that if the price was cheaper you would see so many Evos on the street you would think the damn Civic went away ...

But seriously .... my friend was telln me that the Evo is like an overpriced car ... he said that the engine and stuff could be bought and put into a Ralliart for wAyyYyYy less.... Which brings up the question...

Will the 2004 be more expensive.... Considering that Neon SRT4 isnt exactly that far off in terms of hp ... but a BIG gap in price... soOoO why not 23 or 25 ... I mean the interior aint exactly nice lol...

Alls I know is a nice Blue By You is on my list and I'm ready =P hahha well after I learn manual *I think I've stated that in many other threads * =P

The Evo isn't overpriced, you're just looking at it wrong. If you look at it as a drag car or a compact import, then you're completely missing the boat. It's a rally homologation car. Sure, it's fast, and based on a compact import, but it is a *lot* more than that. It's a true sports car, an all around phenomenal performer with excellent handling, braking, road feel, gearbox, and engine.

Additionally, I find the interior to be quite nice. I guess that this too depends on your perspective. It is not lined in Connolly leather and wood like a Bentley, because it is not a luxury car. The interior is perfect for a driver's car. The Recaro seats are the best I've seen in a production car, the MOMO wheel is perfectly sized and located. The pedals are excellently spaced, the gearbox linkage and shifter have great feel and feedback. By those standards, the interior is awesome. Better than that of the Boxster I traded for it, or any of the 911's before it.

If the evo was cheaper, then u'd see about as many as civics, true... but where i live, most of the people w/ those kinds of cars are teenagers, and well, if they could afford the evo, i'd be scared... they are already killing themselves w/ the civics, and if the got a hold of the evo there would be 10x as many kids dying trying to street race, thats one reason i think mitsu decided to price them the way that they did...

ah true .... PRIOR good point ... you too JWA

But in general terms I think it would be best... that would be the downside of that... but theres a ton of motorcycle accidents and civics in accidents *sorry honda =P* ... but its TRUE

I think the Lancer Ralliart and WRX are still about the same level because it still makes for accidents ... as you say right... I mean accidents are gonna come and go , but for the most part its all about supply and demand ..

If the supply isnt enough for the demand there prolly wont be another Evo here ... and then again if there isnt the demand for a greater supply of Evos we wont see Evos either.... So either way theres gotta be a way that these cars can be more affordable.... sHooOot put less hp that makes it more mpg friendly and bam! We got sales rocketing lol ... well maybe hahha

I just think the interior is ridicuously weird hahha ... Now I have YET to see it in person but from what I hear.... its "OK" ... AN Rx8's interior is freakn nice... if it were like that ... I think its review would be flawless and more competitive towards those awards for car of the year and one of the 10 best...wouldnt you think so? I mean the Rx8 is about what... 50 hp down some and still holds a freakn nice look with NICE interior and about the same price...

So it's 2004. Anyone have any inside info on when yet? I'm still amazed a carmaker wouldn't have the 2004 model out by the beginning of 2004 (at least in America - I know other countries don't jump the gun like we do).

I've posted this info previously, but here goes again. Evos are in production from calendar year to calendar year unlike standard Lancer production, hence the reason you can buy an '04 Lancer but not an '04 Evo. So don't expect to see Evos on the lot for a few more months because they are built in Japan and even if one was built on the 1st of '04, it will take some time to ship to the U.S.

Now to dismiss what another poster had said above, you will be able to get the Evo in '04 in either the standard version or as an "RS". Also, their is no more small wing for '04, the carbon fiber wing is now standard and the price will be adjusted to compensate. Two NEW options will be available, leather for the Recaro seats and an Infinity-based 315-amp seven-speaker stereo with trunk-mounted subwoofer. See the February issue of Motor Trend, page 36, for a test of the Evo RS.

There will also be an "Urban Jungle" package available for the RS that brings back the a/c, power windows and locks, keyless entry, and they paint the mirrors and door handles.

For those you that haven't seen it, Motor Trend has a short description of the Evo RS:

My apologies if someone posted this already!
