Modification Regrets?
i know I am not the first, and wont be the last. tein S-techs...got them for 99 bucks which was a great deal and got rid of the rally stance, but I wish I had just saved up more and gotten swift springs...live and learn and now im saving for coils which is what I should have done in the first place.
I'm new to EVOs and this forum. I just got my LIGHTLY modded Evo a few days ago. I did have a WRX before and had some pretty basic bolt ons; catless UP and TBE and RSB and Cobb AP. I was pretty happy with those mods and the power output, and I think I'm most likely going to go the same route.
The Evo I got had a delphi boost gauge and a HKS CBE (not sure what model). But I guess only the DP and AP is on my list. In all honesty, I don't think the HKS is loud enough for me, so might be changing that out with maybe a skunk2. I guess that's my only regret

I have a Competition Clutch Stage 3.5 and it SUCKS SUCKS SUCKS SUCKS SUCKS SUCKS.
By FAR the worst clutch I have EVER used. The damn thing engages at the very top of the clutch. Adjusting pedal position does not change crap. After numerous calls to Competition Clutch they told me "yup, that's how it is".
SUCKS. DO NOT BUY.

Not really a "Mod" but I regret getting my car in Apex Silver, at the time color was the least of my concerns, oh well!
Other than that, I guess my Swift Spec-R springs, should have just saved and went with coilovers.

Everything in my evo is carefully chosen, I did extensive research before I buy each part. The only thing in my evo that is useless now is the turbo timer, but I received it as gift so I didn't pay for it. Another thing would be the HKS SSQV VTA, totally waste of money and bad for performance, but I bought it used and sold it.
Two things i've prob would have done differently:
1) Blitz ID3 boost controller - got this like 3yrs ago, and wish i went for the HKS evc unit since it seems that most of the tuners down here prefer that down here in Australia since it has function to hold boost better at high revs
2) Not get the Plazaman intercooler piping since now it is bumping into my CF GruppeM air intake, and it's bumped it up a bit. Because of this, i think it's under a bit of strain since the bonnet is trying to push it back down when closed. Hope it doesn't break!!

I bought my evo 3 weeks before the financial collapse, so I'm pretty much stuck with it right now. I love it to death, but I just stare at it in the garage every day and every night just wanting to rip it apart, cage it, build it up....anything.
I regret getting a IX SE with 6k on it, instead of getting an VIII, maybe a salvaged one that I could've had a fun project car with. My EVO's too perfect to rip apart.

Oh we're talking about clutches now too??
Then I regret getting a exedy hyper single as a daily drive, and one that drives during peak hour >< ><
Killed that clutch in i dunno how long! Worse waste of money in my life (yes i'm a noob manual driver lolz)

I'd saying buying used.. I bought mine a few months ago and have just been fixing all the small issues.
Not too big of a deal, just frustrating that someone would buy a 35k car and put EBAY parts into it... *sigh*

#1 selling my GG IX MR back in october. dumbest thing ever done.
after that, modding my evo too quickly and not becoming a better driver first/ growing into the chassis setup. my previous evo had robispec clubsports and a fantastic chassis setup and frankly it was too fast. after i sold it, i did quite a bit of indoor karting over the winter where the surface was always very cold and i'd switch out karts after every session to one with cold tires. i also had an e30 m3 with some pretty poor tires (again in the winter with cold, rainy days) and did a lot of sliding around. a lot of sliding around.
now i'm in a stock suspended RS, still sliding around, having a lot of fun, feeling comfortable with pushing and actually thinking that the stock suspension is FTW. and not having to deal with scraping the front lip or the feeling of crashing due to the occasional pothole.
also, the ebay exhaust was a great value, but i replaced it with a perrin. it fit better, looked nicer, and was quiter. i'm telling you it's nice to have a car with select items hardened and made more direct and leaving as much stuff stock (for NVH) as possible. it'll keep you from falling "out of love" with your car, selling it, just to get another evo later like this one dumbass i know.
