my regret is taking out a loan to buy the car instead of saving up and paying cash, but i guess thats not really a mod. i think that having a loan payment has helped me resist the urge to mod. once i pay it off and pay cash for something else as a daily driver, all bets are off.

From: .... down the bayou
1) K&N Typhoon Intake -pure crap
1) DynoFlash -mostly crap and disgruntle block tuning
3) JIC MR downpipe -was 3" only in between the two 2.5" ends
4) Forge MBC -very leaky
5) Forge Diverter -part throttle suffered
6) Homemade catch can -leaked vapor and looked retarded
7) Cusco braces -waste of money unless you like wasting money
8) Mini battery kit -should not be used, drag cars ok
9) Buschur cone filter for DD -dust and sand in combustion camber is not good
10) J Speed HPower Front pipe -over priced very difficult install/removal anytime you need to remove a turbo, oil pan, tranny, steering rack, etc not sure of any gains over 3" pipe and o2 housing not worth the trouble

That is all I can think of right, now, but I have all of these regrets in my basement, and more, if anyone wants any.

Buying the first mod! Once you buy one, it's all down hill from there! I was bone stock 9 months ago, now I'm completely done with bolt-ons, and planning a build!!

Was your car properly tuned for those mods? Other than that the only thing I can think of is as someone above me mentioned, the driver mod. What was ur trap speed?

Sometimes I regret buying the Evo because it has so many things on it that can go wrong and it will cost an arm and a leg to fix. This whole transfer case and rear diff crap are a pain in the ***. I have a whine and dont even know where to begin?..Nobody knows jack about evos and the ones that do all tell me transfercase or rear diff. OK well I'm not going to take a $5,000 guess and get it wrong.

Also I modded my fuel pump to a walbro...OMG that thing is terrible. it whines like a rc car. feels like I'm driving around in a beater car.

besides that I Do like my car. I love the Engine, it is very strong and can handle abuse. I now have a 5 speed shep tranny and besides the first gear whine it feels strong. No more power mods for me though, I'm done with that crap.

You didnt mention a tune.....meaning you dont have 2 step. You should be getting 1.6-1.7 60 ft's. I never got a 1.8 racing my evo. Also Maybe your shifting slow. I can launch like a mad man but my shifting is kind of slow, especially 2nd to 3rd .

None the less I have just about the same mods as you and I run 12.2-12.4 all day.

It's not a 5k guess. You send in your transfer case to shep trans or english racing. They do the basic rebuild which is $350, if they find something is messed up then they fix it, but it's no where close to $5k. I got a complete transfer case and transmission rebuild from English racing for under $3k. That's with enhanced parts.

I believe you're taking your car to the wrong places. Find a local tune shop (preferably an evo shop) near you and go there. Don't mess with local garages. The evo really isn't that complicated, until you get into tuning it. Even then once you know how it's not a big deal.

Either you have a bad fuel pump or it wasn't installed incorrectly. I've heard dozens of Walbros and can NEVER hear a wine (that is unless the car is gutted, or the fuel is very low). I put an Evo IX fuel pump in replacement of my walbro because it died and I didn't notice any change. Speaking of running the fuel low and getting the whine, don't do it. You will burn that fuel pump faster than you can say "Walbro doesn't honor warranties".

That first gear "whine" isn't the transmission. It's the transfer case differential. Our evo's are geared so low that it puts a tremendous amount of torque on the transfer case. That is normal.

My latest modification regret... replacing the stock clutch with the stock clutch. That was very dumb of me .

Other than that my previous modification regret was the Ralliart center shift console. It is made for RHD and I tried to put it in my Evo VIII. After hacking and slashing I still couldn't get it to match the curve of the bezel. Ended up selling it. It would have looked really good. A shame really.

Other than that I'm pretty damn happy with all my mods. I'd do them all over again.
