Evo's Trade in/Resale Value [MERGED]
from my understanding dealers to not go by KBB or NADA pricing, they primarily use "Black Book" pricing when dealing with trade in's. for a 2005 Evo with 8000 miles this is what i came with off of a black book website.
2005 MITSUBISHI LANCER 4D SEDAN
$17,480 - $21,285
I've seen Evo 9's for sale on here for cheap that people have a hard time selling. Maybe it's due to the niche market of the Evo. The performance is incredible, but the styling probably wouldn't make it the car of choice for an older "business professional". They would probably be more into a G35, s2000, 350z, M3, or something along those lines.

i would never trade the Evo in, but i was suprised at how low the trade in was. i guess most people only have one car, so their only option is to trade their car in for a new one.
Thats also the "LANCER" quoted out of the Black book, I don't see it clearly spelled out as an EVOLUTION sedan.. You got lowballed, there are some inexpensive Evo's out there, but if your car is clean, unmodified (or at least unmolested) you should be able to get at least 23k for it, likely quite a bit more..

2005 MITSUBISHI LANCER EVOLUTION VIII 4D SEDAN
i think a brand new regular lancer from the dealer has an MSRP below $19,000.
he was saying that it wasn't a car he could sell on the lot so he would have sent it to auction or a wholesaler. i did notice that the black book value's on the same year s2000's are about the same as the Evo so I don't feel too bad.
Just wondering if everyone out there agrees with me that the Evo has one of the worst resale values out there. I have a 2005 Standard Evo 8 garage kept with only 8,000 miles. I was quoted $20,000 as trade in value. Is it normal that after 18 months of owning a car it's already depreciated 33%?! How much would my car be worth to a private party? Also is when is the best time of the year to sell a car?
Though with that being said, December is the best time to buy a car! I picked up a 7k mile 2005 EVO GSR in mint condition for 23k. It came with the full service history and all the books etc. So for 7k miles I paid 9,000 less than the original owner.

You can definitely get more money by selling it rather than trading it.
Buying a car and then selling it so soon after purchase is a guaranteed way to lose money.
I just don't get why people buy a car, then sell it after 6 months. Well, I understand if its a financial issue, but its always a losing proposition to sell a new car without getting "Your moneys worth" (the enjoyment) out of driving it.
The moral of the story is to sell a car during the nice weather, when people want to be out looking for cars, and are enjoying the experience, and sell it privately. Otherwise your just going to take a huge loss.
Or you can just keep the car for a few years, let it get past its abnormal first year depreciation, then see it appreciate in value after everyone realizes the true value of these cars and that you can no longer get a "Real Evo" after this year.

if you trade it in what do you expect? all trade-in are the lowest of the barrel and if you're short of cash and cannot pay the evo anymore, you grab it.
market value of the evo is definitely higher and please don't mention the evo in the same line as the kia
