Evo vs. STI | Anything and Everything [ALL THREADS MERGED]
There is a report for the 2005 STi and it comes with wider tires, yaw sensor in the DCCD, underbody aerodynamics, new steering wheel, new colors, new steering rack and suspension stuff. All that seems to make it more on-par with the Evo handling-wise.
Now, Mitsu should update the 2005 models and bring us the Evo MR for MY2005!

Now if either company could just provide US buyers with a no-cost "I have thinner hips" seating option. Sigh.

I live in New Zealand, so the evo 8 we get is the full version one (with active yaw control etc), while the STi we get is the the 2.0 version.
So I'd rather have EVO 8 than the STi..
However now that the new wrx STi WR1 is out, that would be my top choice, then the evo 8 (a black one like on project gotham racing 2), the thirdly a STi..

ha, kiwi's rule! all blacks baby...
anyhow, it would be nice if we got the full version one, but then prices would be through the roof. the evo here without all the bells an whistles is still a great car.

Well, I used to own a light-tuned STi until it was stolen earlier this week, and soon, I'll be an Evo owner.
Not that the STi was crap, and I really do miss it but I, for one, have always liked the mean looks of the Evo IV - VI, the VII and VIII I didn't like it that much at first but it just kept growing on me. Now? I consider the VIII's looks as "badass". As far as power goes, stock for stock, I really liked the low end torque of the STi. This was a deciding factor because when I drove my first Evo last summer in my dad's modded Evo VI T.M.E, the lack of low end torque was quite obvious. Starting in 2nd in city traffic would make the car buck while it was non-existence in the STi. Other than that the mid and high end felt similar. The 6-speed gearbox and cruise control of the STi sounds really tempting, I have one extra gear over the Evo, right? The thing is, I rarely needed it, except roadtrips. Even then I didn't use the cruise control. I didn't play around with the DCCD either except when I needed to do 6k rpm launches. Otherwise the Auto mode pretty does everything for you. Interior quality for the STi was very impressive, soft plastic which looked almost on par with a 3 series Bimmer IMO. The Evo, as everyone already knew, doesn't have the best interior for a 29K car, but I do like the roominess of it, at least that's what it seems to be. The Recaro's are also a much better fit for my built (5'9-10, 180) unlike the stock STi seats which didn't have the lateral support as I would like to. Last thing, the new EJ257 of the USDM STi was not the easiest engine to put out major HP. The turbine requires wastegate porting once you decided to TB it or else it's boost creep heaven. Once it goes beyond stock, it's the 4G63 that has the advantage over the EJ257, at least until the day the new EJ has been R&D well enough that it can pump out 400awhp consistently. Until then, I'll go with the Evo.

That's funny, I felt the exact opposite, and I do agree with you on alot of things to. When I first got into evoing, I thought the STI is just butt ulgy and I didnt like it

How was your car stolen. Did you have the security system with kill switch. I'd think you'd be nervous about having your new car stolen.....again.

Go to NASIOC to see how they get stolen with and without alarm.

stock alarm disables starter for 30 sec.
I thought the STI is just butt ulgy and I didnt like it . Well, the first STI that I saw in real life is a silver, which explain it all. My second was a blue and then a white, those STI just blew me away.
and the STi began to look a little uhh...less appealing? Dull?
Wow, I really like how my poll on buying decision factors was merged with all this other crap. Now it's impossible to browse the 63 pages (in my view) and follow any of the discussions.
Sometimes it's better to leave threads separate, even when you wrongly think they're the same, because they have different purposes.
Another reason to keep them separate is that information becomes out of date, so newer threads shouldn't be merged with old ones that are obsolete.
My poll had far more views too
