Evo vs. STI | Anything and Everything [ALL THREADS MERGED]
Thanks Alex. I'll see what I can get the dealer to come down to. The ace up my sleeve is that I can wait a few weeks until April when the '04's arrive. I'm not a desperate buyer who needs an EVO right away!
Oh, from talking to the Subaru sales guy, he said the '05 STI's are coming out in May/June of this year. He said the price will go up slightly...so there may be a few changes.
I would say, my biggest attraction to the STI at this point is the HP. I plan on holding off modifying my car for the first year, just in case anything goes wrong and I need to get it fixed under warranty. I could either be driving around in the 271hp Evo, or the 300hp STI. Both cars are great and will fill the gap in my enthusiast's heart.
Time will tell...I'll give you a call this weekend.

Can't go wrong with either car. You can tune suspension just like you can tune an engine, so if what you crave is ultimate asphault grip you can get there. I could put on some JIC coilovers, tower braces and sway bars and I would be on my way. Of course wider tires/wheels also helps massively with grip on corners
As far as "feel" goes, my dad's miata with springs feels the same as the evo (I have driven both). I believe it is the bushings in the steering that give you the "connected" feel to the road, that the subys don't quite have. I personally don't mind the slightly disconnected feeling, because it is easier on me for every day driving, but doesn't really hinder me if I want to drive fast either. I will say the evo is one of the best handling cars I have driven stock though.

Thanks fre. Handling is a big issue for me. Sport Compact Car in a recent article "Project Evo vs Project STI" talked about how to improve the handling of the stock STI. Seemed like a pretty complicated process, and I'm not sure it's worth all the hassle. May just be better to buy an Evo that handles like a champ straight from the factory.
My long-term goal for my next purchase, is once I've paid off in 4 years, gutting it out and using it as a race car on the weekends, and buying a new R35 GT-R for commuting.

Wait till details on the 2005 STi are known. Some rumors floating around are:
new dark grey color (pretty much confirmed)
revised steering rack (probably Spec C)
new mechanical front diff
wider tires?
revised suspension?
If the rumors are true and I can get one with a small wing, my Evo will be for sale.

The pointless pissing match about the definition of a 12 sec car has been removed. Please stay on topic guys.
If you want to start a discussion about the definition of a 12 sec car, please start a new thread in the OT forum.

idk if this has been mentioned , but i heard the sti engine is not very moddable , no not just because of part wise either , ive heard a few times of people ****in up there turbo and engine by putting on some mods and upping the boost a little , the aluminum cant handle it. evo definatly has stronger engine internals , being that it already is ran at 19ish psi stock , this would be a factor to throw in with the others when deciding.
