Factory reflashes, hesitation, stalling, and everything you need to know [merge]
I know it's only a couple MPG iprovement, but suddenly the X is a lot more attractive to me. I don't have the $ to have a evo and a DD, so it's one or the other. I don't think 29.8 is too bad at all for being a DD.
Sorry to ruin all your excitement guys but that average fuel thing is messed up. The reason i know this is becasue I had 7k miles on my lancer gts and now 3k miles on my Evo and about 4k of those miles have been highway driving/trips and i have messed with and tested that "average mpg" function so many times its unbelievable.
I've made 3 hour long highway trips with the cruise set at 80mph and had it report my average speed as 60mph because I drove for 3min on backroads before I got on the highway. I've seen my average speed go up from like 65-66 AFTER having exited the highway and when I'm driving ~30mph.
Lastly you can easilly make the average mpg come up as being very high. Next time your on the highway accelerate till your going pretty fast and then reset the meter (hold the "mode" button) and coast for a while. Your average mpg will start off at like 40mpg and then if you drive normally for a while it will still read some rediculously high number.
Anyway, morall of the story is that that meter sucks and you should not trust it. Its amusing to watch the "instantaneous" fuel economy but besides that its pretty useless. I can average 78mph on a 3hr highway trip as opposed to 60mph if i just reset the meter as soon as I'm up to speed as opposed to leaving it so that it averages in the ~3min i was driving before getting on the highway.
You want to know your fuel economy? then do it the old fashion way and divide the miles you've driven since your last refuel by the gallons it takes to refill the tank. I know this isn't perfect but its a helluva lot closer then that meter.
Best part is if you have the nav you can go to Info->trip and scroll down and it will tell you your distance since last refuel. just remember to check this before you start to refill the car cause it resets otherwise.

I have calculated my actual MPG vs. that of the computer and it is fairly accurate. 29 is a HUGE improvement. The best I have been able to get on the highway has been 20.8, but I was also averaging 10mph more than you.
Now as far as the reflash goes, does it address the sputtering and hesitation up top?? I just picked my car up from the dealer and they were looking into it, and they said they were told the reflash was not available yet, but will be soon.

Hey guys, take those numbers with a grain of salt. I never said to expect to average 29.8 mpg, I just posted it to show you what is possible under good conditions (no traffic) and careful driving. I usually only average around 16-18 mpg on my old 8 and the new 10 because my driving is primarily short trips (from campus to the store to buy beer) and I have a heavy foot.
But also note that I really have no reason to give you guys false hope, so No i did not accelerate to 350mph and then hit the reset button, nor did I drive to the top of a mountain and coast down. The mpg meter was reset when i left my friends driveway in Arcadia and I took the picture while waiting at the light to pull into school. 53 average mph was comprised of freeway driving at around 65-70mph (not using cruise) and some stop and go as the commute from Arcadia requires exiting the freeway and using surface streets.
btw I also have a cone-filter mod so perhaps that contributed to a slightly leaner afm. So basically I cannot see any drawbacks to getting this reflash. It runs better, feels faster, doesnt stumble at high rpms, improves your mpg, and best of all its free!
Good luck everyone

Ok...
Seeing as my comment pissed everyone off. I'm sorry.
a) never meant to imply you were purposelly ****ing with us or giving us false hope.
b) The thing is a huge POS and it doesn't work. Sorry, don't know how to state that any clearer. It is at best semi accurate. And i have compared the reported average mpg on that thing to actual determined by the miles driven/gas to refill numerous times and it is a best "semi accurate"
