COBB AccessTUNER Pro for 2008 EVO X (merge)
Thanks,
i just installed the AP with the stage 1 map and i gotta say it is smooth all the way to the redline. i've been driving on the stock map for about 13k miles and going wot i was anticipating the clunk in the high rpms and for it to struggle to redline but it just shot right up there. i need more time with it to detemine how much faster it feels. what i gathered so far is that it is finally smooth and strong. i am pleased with my buy.
Does the Cobb AP Stage 1 map for the MR affect how the SST transmission works? In other words, if you change the engine characteristics, won't the SST programming have to change in order to have optimal SST shifting functionality?
The SST box works great with an AP tune. Most of the initial starting delay [from a standstill] are eliminated as the tuned MR has soo much more low-end power and the gearbox uses that quite nicely.
I agree with you on that. I just traded my 04 srt-4 in for my evo the night before last night, and it feels like the powerband is completely different. I'm trying to get used to it.
I have never used any chips or engine management before so I am new to this. I am looking at getting an AP and have some questions. What is the process to change from one map to another? You have to have the engine off correct? You can't just pull up to a stop light and switch from economy to performance map while the engine is running? How long does it take to flash it to a different map? I've seen that it takes 20 or so minutes the first time, but when you have your maps and are just swapping between how long would it typically take? Say I was switching to the valet mode, or anti theft and back to operational. Or switching between performance and economy. Does this take seconds? minutes?
Also I know I didn't get an Evo for the fuel economy, but I was wondering if anyone had any hard data on the difference between the performance and economy map. Are we talking a couple MPG here or what? Is the economy map only worthwhile on road trips? If I drive out to see my family, 91 octane stations are few and far between. 93 is nearly nonexistent even around here.
So squeezing a few extra MPG could come in handy.
The car only has a bit over 300mi so far so I haven't even taken it over 5k yet. Maybe I can skip ever experiencing the factory tune problems.
Thanks for your help everybody.

Thanks for your help everybody.Anyway as far as the AP is concern... Yes your car must be parked it iwll take about 4-6 mins for sure to load in each program on to the ECU... I wish it was faster but I guess that is the price you pay... I have change from stage 1 to econo and that took about 5-6 mins I think it will be like that with all maps
They have a 91 map no problem...
MPG i'm doing well on it i will tell you the result ASAP

Yeah I'm still in the break in period. I am taking it in to the dealer tomorrow to get the mud flaps they owe me that were on backorder. Should I make sure they check or apply the factory reflash?

the first flash takes about 20-30 minutes because it has to download the stock maps. as far as switching from map to map, i imagined i would use the valet map if i had to bring my car in for an inspection so some schlub can't take it out and beat on it, which has happened to me with my previous car. i can't imagine taking minutes to flash it over and back again just to valet. park it yourself. i think it was a great idea for cobb to make several maps that we can play with.

You start to gain attension to details...
You will know just by the sound your car makes that it is not normal... I just Stage 1 Tune it yesterday and to tell you the truth I almost didn't shift on time... so get the AP and have fun
