Stage 2 Update:

The stage 2 mapping is coming along nicely. The power available from minimal modifications and a great tune is simply stunning. In my experience no vehicle so close to stock has shown such huge improvements with minimal modifications (+80 hp over stock).

That said, SurgeLine Tuning - a Cobb Premier Facility in Portland Oregon - is in the final stages of creating stage 2 maps. The last step is determining if the totally stock boost control hardware is capable of attaining and controlling stage 2 boost levels. Thus far we have been able to attain appropriate boost levels by changing a single air restrictor pill. We are documenting this process and determining if indeed this step is needed OR if there is perhaps an even more simply solution. The end goal is to make the stage 2 maps perform as well as is possible with minimal effort on the part of the consumer.

Look for stage 2 mapping in two weeks or less.

Thanks
Tim Bailey

Does the stage 2 mapping requires turbo back exhaust?

I'm fearing it might... Ugh... But Nothing is better than going to your local shop that can do AccessTuner Pro and make a custom map for your car...

PTuning in VA Just told me they will get the software soon and taking reservation.... I'm down...

But Stage 2 would be crazy just with drop in filter no intake mod and catback 93octane...

For USDM cars, you are correct that the AP comes loaded with several maps ready for use when ordered from cobbtuning.com or from a vendor of ours.

Thanks,

I have been having some of the sputtering type symptyms described alot on here about the X, the Cobb AP should clear up this and and some ponies to this bad boy correct. The acceleration is just not smooth on my X.

This may be a stupid question, but here goes:

Will the Cobb AP Stage 1 tune for the Evo X MR increase fuel economy? I'm assuming it would, because I've read it leans out the A/F ratio...

Yes Sir, the AP will smooth out the power and add more than a few ponies

Yes, if your driving habits stay the same, you should see better fuel economy. The problems come in that the AP also adds an unexplained 20 lbs to your right foot. Who knew!?!

Yes, I find fuel economy is proportionally related to how I use my right foot
But, even if you drive slowly, our cars are heavy with lots of rubber on the ground and it has a low compression ratio - not optimal for fuel efficiency.

Hah.

I realize that I didn't buy an Evo for fuel economy reasons. I was just curious about the effects of the Cobb tuning maps.

(funny how all of the "poor fuel economy" discussions have stopped, now that the price of gas is back down...)

How about another question:

Does the Cobb AP Stage 1 map for the MR affect how the SST transmission works? In other words, if you change the engine characteristics, won't the SST programming have to change in order to have optimal SST shifting functionality?
