Also, I ran the numbers on Perrin's turbo thread. Given what they posted, the turbos running at like 63% efficiency at max boost. This isn't unreasonable for a tiny turbo being overspun. It's not great of course, but well, I'm not suprised at the results.

I installed a used ETS 4" FMIC today to try out. I'm going to make some passes at Rockingham tomorrow and see what the car does. First time there with the Evo. After that I'll post a "how to remove the turbo and exhaust manifold" thread. In a couple weeks though.

I just tried this about an hour ago. I have no other performance mods done to the car. I turned 3 turns and locked it down there Im boosting about 21ish psi dropping down to 17-18 psi. I can get it to spike to 24 psi for a split second doing 3rd or 4th gear pulls. no cel or ses yet and no outragous boost spiking either

I just did this.
3.5 turns, plus I installed my Perrin MBC.
25psi 3200-5500rpm, tapering to 21psi @ 7000rpm

Well, I finally got it to trip an SES. When I first did the adjustment, I made I think 3.5 turns. Today, I took it back apart and adjusted it as far in as I could. The change was immediately noticeable when driving the car. However, I was able to trip an SES and limp mode with WOT in 5th gear. My boost gauge was reading 25 pounds or thereabouts when I got fuel cut. Prior to that I was boosting around 23-24 pounds without any issues. As soon as my manifold cools down a bit I'm gonna reduce it by a half a turn and see what happens. Also I was seeing very little boost taper and no taper in certain gears.

How do you know you had fuel cut? Did the car studder around 5500 rpm to about 7000 rpm. I'm aking this because my car studder's around those rpms.

Well, I know about the turns and the MBC, but earlier you stated that it was tapering to 21... Just wondering if you managed to hold to 27 by fiddling with the MBC, WG, both, or if something else was required.

Because a solid 27 to redline is nice...

Gonna have to see dyno verification on that one. Sounds like an optimistic Defi or Autometer gauge to me.

My externally gated 3071R couldn't even hold 27psi to redline.

27 PSI? was this on 93 octane pump gas? What are the safe limits on the Evo X given the 9:1 compression ratio and newly designed engine? Overall it sounds like this mod along with a boost controller really pay dividends as long as you don't go to nutty on the boost levels without a tune. Sounds like Fuel cut will start kicking in at 25 PSI without any ECU changes.

No, I went into limp mode. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that the ECU triggers a fuel cut after a certain high level of boost as a safety feature. I think you can have this adjusted with a tune, but I haven't got one yet. I believe that the car naturally stutters a bit around 5500 to 7000 because it is running so rich during that rpm range. The factory flashes are supposed to help with this, or you can get a custom tune. When my car went limp, I lost all boost and got a SES. You have to turn off the car, give it a second, then start it again. Then you have to reset the ECU to get rid of the SES.
