2009 Evo X release date?
^Agreed. The 08 Evos weren't really widely available until when, mid-February? They aren't exactly flying off the lots, so I'm not too sure if Mitsu is rushing to get the 09's out there. I'm sure they will feature the Ralliart for a few months, rather than overshadow it with a new model year Evo.
I am positive that we will see 09's this year.
The part I am really upset about is that no one in the automotive journalist industry has scooped what changes are coming?
If they can find out what a super-secretive company like Mercedes is planning for 2010 model cars how in the hell can they not get info from a hobo car company like Mitsubishi? LOL
I want a 6-speed for quieter highway cruising, I want Bilsteins and leather as an option on the GSR, and radio controls on the steering wheel. No reason to mess with the powertrain - do you see anybody complaining here about the power? Jeesh. I wonder if Mitsu even bothers to read these boards.
It reminds me of the Mazda people who keep refining and forcing another awful rotary engine upon the world when nobody wants it. Pay attention to your customers, guys!!!
Releasing an 09 model halfway through 09 makes absolutely no sense. No car manufacturer does that.

Not sure of the release date but got some more info on the new X.

Doing battle with the STI Spec C will be a new MR version of the Lancer Evolution, which is also expected to benefit from a host of cosmetic upgrades including additional vents on the front bumper, a new set of side skirts, a revised rear wing and a set of black alloys. The car will also sport a 305hp (227kW) version of the 2.0L turbo engine to put it ahead of its Subaru rival in the power stakes. Along with the power upgrade, the engine will also be reworked for better response at the top end and more low-down torque. The SST twin-clutch transmission will also get beefed up.

Subaru was listening to consumers when it revised the 09 WRX after only one year of the 08 WRX, so I hope Mitsubishi makes the above changes to the 09 MR.
They incentivize the heck out of the old stock and want to get rid of it. You're already seeing Mitsu doing it pushing the low APR rates and the leases. They have to get rid of that 08 stock and quick.
Anytime you see same-year models on the lots in September of that year, things are not going well for the dealerships.
I find this hard to believe. They really think more people are in the market for MR's than the GSR's?? I'd say it was the other way around.
Rumors I've heard from 4 dealers on 2009 models:
1) Small bump in HP to best STI
2) Technology package for GSR available
3) MR wheel package option for GSR
4) 6 Speed manual transmission as an option for 2009 and standard in 2010.
5) Upgraded seat materials
6) Upgraded interior materials overall
7) Additional color choice
I've heard these rumors enough that I backed off buying a loaded GSR two days ago and decided to wait a bit longer. I have a nice Subaru Legacy Turbo to play with for the moment. I'm committed to buying an Evo X, I just want to be miserable if the 2009 model has a significant improvement. If nothing else I'll have the 2009 model which will hold value a bit better.

Things get better over time. If everyone constantly waited for the year, no one would buy anything.
Well all those upgrades wouldn't be a big deal except maybe a solid 6 speed tranny with better highway manners and gearing. Giving the car a peak horsepower bump is rediculously easy since they can raise boost at 6k RPM from 15 psi to 18 psi and still be under it's max flow for a nice gain and lean the AF ratios out to a still conservative 10.5:1 or 11.0:1 range to hit the 320 crank HP range stock. That would let the X hit around 103-104 trap speeds so it would be closer to the stock 8/9 quarter mile times.
They probably saw how much power TTP's Z chip could put out with 107 trap speeds on just a chip/MBC and fell over in disbelief! Either way, any HP upgrades would be from the tune unless they change the turbo size slightly to hold better boost above 6k RPM, would be nice. It's like the DSM T25 all over again!

Technology package - Ditto
MR wheel package - Ditto
6 speed manual - This would be huge but I doubt it
upgraded seat materials - very likely considering how necessary this is
upgraded interior bits - I doubt any major changes
additional color choice - a real Rally Red color is almost a given
The 6 speed is the only thing that would make me hold off buying an X but honestly at this point I am willing to gamble my $33,000 that it is not going to happen. And I am definitely not the gambling type.
They wouldn't do that. That is why they want people to pay more and get the 38K MR which comes with those options. Mitsu is expecting GSR to be 40% or their sales, with the MR being the other 60%
While I still hope these changes come, I just reread the sep. 08 Motor trend with the 09 car manufac. reviews, and it says "The awesome Lancer evolutions (GSR/MR) will be unchanged heading into their sophomore year." I hope that Mitsu. still makes the changes from the above link, as a) it will help justify that 39k price tag, and b) be a better car.
