Lancer Evolution X News, Info, Pics, etc... | [ALL THREADS MERGED]
I dont like it. The car is on a limited budget and is supposed to come in around 30 grand. All that money going into the back seats is money coming OUT of the engine and chassis.
Maybe as an expensive option, but I wouldnt get it. The only time I have people in my back seats is also the time when I'm not driving the car hard enough to warrant those for the rear passengers. I'd rather have comfy bench seats if I was sitting in the back of a tiny 4 door car as well.

Jeff,
You really need to read all the posts.
The platform for the next-gen Lancer/Evo X and Dodge Caliber, as stated by GPTourer only 8 posts above yours, is a Mitsu design licensed by DCX. This is nothing new for Mitsu and DCX. Eclipse/Talon, Starion/Conquest, etc. DCX has stated that they are still using the platform even after pulling out their ownership because it would cost too much and take to long to develop a new platform.
As for WRC, for a fan, you are leaving out a key point or 3. Mitsu took a year off and when they returned said that the next couple of years were _development_ years. The LancerWRC04 and 05 were competing with lower specs than the top teams and last year was still able to perform extremely well at some events, i.e. 3rd in Monte Carlo and 2nd in Australia. They are also well placed for next year because of the rule changes implemented for 06. The WRC05 had a lot of the 06 regs in mind during the last year of development/racing esp. the differentials which they now have a full year of racing development over the other teams. Whether that translates into success next year, I guess well see in 6 weeks.
And Tommi M. left Mitsu in 2002...he won his 4 straight championships with Mitsu in the late 90's.
As for what all this means for the X, truthfully, nothing. We are all guessing based on very loose info into which we have no real insight.
That said, the only really known things are that the interior as it is in the Concept X will not carryover into the production car. The exterior is a LOT closer than the interior to what the final styling will be like for the Evo Sedan and the possible Evo Crossover. (Mitsu has said they will build both concepts, whether the Crossover class vehicle will be an Evolution a la the Airtrek Evolution is not publicly known)
Then there is the DSG style transmission. First, it is NOT an automatic transmission as some have stated. Second, Mitsu had previously stated that they want to move towards that type of transmission before the Concept X was shown. So, it is a pretty good bet that they will offer it. Most of the major sportscar manufacturers are definitely looking at this technology...Ferrari is said to be in talks with Ricardo to license the technology used in the Veyron. (i.e. a DSG that can handle of 1000lb-ft of torque) and Porsche is also rumored to be looking at replacing the ageing Tiptronic with a DSG-style tranny.
Well that should keep you all reading for a while

I think its funny, its just like when the VIII came out. Everyone was like, " It's so ugly I would never own one." and then 5 months later that same person is like, " It is the best looking car ever". I think evo's grow on people. I think the X looks great and I am already setting back money for one. And you know the performance is not going to take a step back, that would defeat the purpose of the Evolution

I prefer the bench. I rarely cart around anyone in the back and if I do it's usually 3 people. Those seats would probably go to waste. My snowboard barely fits as it is and this looks like it would be even harder, especially if I had a buddy's board too.
