How hard would it be to stiffen the suspension back up if they did soften it? Not familiar with that kind of modification.
While I like a stiff suspension I don't want one that feels like I'm sitting on the frame. I hope for those that race or are enthusiasts they offer if not a barebones trim like the RS a race/rally trim that is more mod friendly.

I did a search today in my area and only found one Evo, figured I'd go and test drive one (if nothing else the ride should be at least 70-80% of whatever comes out next). The MSRP was 38k so I'm assuming its a MR with options or jacked up in price. Might have to take off work early and see if I can go for a spin.
I miss my manual, and my CBR 600 damn responsibility aka rugrats and uh wife

to take an evo out of its niche market would be to make it something other than an evo, thereby losing that market while taking a gamble trying to enter a market that is even more competitive.
and i have to ask, do you have an evo, or have you been following its history for that long? you're going to come across many on this board who are evo purists. even mivec wasn't terribly well recieved. what defines this car is its raw uncompromised performance. that is the direction it has followed, that is where it should continue to go.

That's why I bought my EVO. Wife made me get ride of my GSXR 1000
after we started having children
. You can get that car cheaper too. When I first test drove the EVO the salesman had to get his manager to approve it first like it was gold. It wasn't until I laughed at him and told him my new quest cost as must as his "gold" and who I was that he let me drive it. (He judged the book by the cover!) That's what hooked me. So hope you get to have fun if you do take the day off. Buy the Nine.
P.S. I drove from Nashville to St Louis for my car. Then took it up to the same dealership for the two bolt that secure the tag. Sometimes that premature judgement bites yeah in the ***.

You guys may or may not be surprised on the current Evo market. There is a huge flux of interest in the Evo IX. I have many new owner coming from Subaru, and those who were considering Subaru changed there mind after the ugly front grill was integrated into the STI
. In the past three years the Evo has made a surprising mark on performance and the underground tuner markets. I literally have guys trading in the Carrera's for an Evo and I have to give them money back for there trade. Usually they let me know that they're getting tired of being passed up at the track.
Unfortunately Honda killed a major portion of there market with there new body style for the Accord. Time and time again I here people stating of how bad the the new Accords look, (I actually don't mind the new look)
.
There was a lot of doubt about the new Evo IX, too. Especially with the MIVEC Engine. But as we have seen many of the Tuners are producing amazing power number with the new engine. I think the Evo X will either make or break Mitsubishi in its sport and racing division. It's a big jump, Hope we will make it to the other side.

If I was concerned soley with looks and prestige I'd have a 325xi, IS 250, RX-8 or similar in my driveway right now. I want a really good performing car for my next vehicle. I've never had one before and figure it's about time I remedy that situation. Having said that I am a graphic/web designer so I deal in visuals, have been for 15 years so I tend to like a pretty package.
Perhaps one more analogy if a tad off-color: Pamela Anderson, has the looks and the motor. Would you ever experience the motor if it was wrapped in Ruth Westheimers skin? I think not.

The first time I went to look at an Evo VI it was because of all the rave reviews. I wanted something fast but with a bit more space than the M Roadster. I can't claim I was immediately enamoured when I saw it and the bland interior, in fact I have to admit I said "I'm not paying 50K for this" (this was in europe) and left the dealership.
I kept on test driving other cars; but I decided the reviews were just too good not to try it at least. So off we go, I try out a heel and toe and my eyes are starting to get bigger. We turn onto a nice windy road up a hill... 5 minutes into the test drive I turn to my wife and exclaim : "I have to have it!". (This may not be the recommended negotiating tactics with the sales guy in the rear seat). The guy in the back seat gets on the phone and starts arrranging the deal... and ever since my wife and I have been hooked.
The styling of the Evos has really grown on me; I really like the "edge" they have now. The more you appreciate that they're designed on the principle of form follows function, the more you'll like them... So a word of warning, you might become a convert
Of course everyone has different expectations for a car, but if you are truly looking for a driver's car, you might find nirvana here. If not, you might find a rough ride and a car that attacks your senses... the only way to find out is to go get that test drive... make sure to hit some curves...
Andi
Plain English for everyone to understand. If Mitsubishi screws the Evo up, I am done with Mitsubishi forever. You see my Advant. That will be my car if they **** it up. The reason I sold my other car is because I love the Evo so much. If they **** us over now, then I hope they go Bankrupt...
Did everyone read the article?
Here are the X issues at hand and they will be the determining factors in if the X survives and sells.
1. The engine is all new. It is not a 4G63 and will be all aluminum.
The potential exists for the new engine to be a failure in the first year or so which often happens on new models.
2. The engine is being turned back around so the turbo will be a buried back by the firewall. Crappy design IMO. I always hate that Subaru put their turbo back there, at least they have more room to do so.
3. S-AYC means more electronics and more to go wrong. Given Mitsu's crappy service departments I hope you know how to fix it when it breaks.
I am one who thinks the new body looks good and is a step up but given the above items I have backed away from waiting for the X.

who cares? I got mine...screw the rest
I skimmed this post...read a few replies....Evo X, XI, XII, ....who gives a F***! I say buy what you want...If it wasn't for the fact that Mitsu released the Lancer Evolution to the USDM I would have purchased an Evo VII. It's funny how people think that mitsubishi (as a company, business, corporation, whatever, etc.) whose primary goal is to make a profit, would give 2 shakes of a S*** stick about whether a minority of niche car enthusiasts/buyers wants them to redesign/not redesign a marque product in their stable of vehicles. I already own an Evo, so I could care less what the "evo 10" looks like, performs like, etc. I also think it's funny how bent people get over mitsubishi's decision to change their designs...especially people that dont own the actual cars in question!!! If you are worried that mitsu is going to screw up the Evo X, then buy an earlier model...(there's plenty of used one's out there). News flash: the world is (hypothetically) 50% Honda Civic (no offense) 40% US Domestic (Ford, Chevy, Mopar) and the rest is just a mixed bag of nuts...If it wasn't for the 97% of people that purchased the base model Lancer, eclipse, galant, etc., we probably wouldn't have the Evo....thank God for the general buying public at large, if it were up to the en-to-the-asses of the world the evo would have never made it past the evo I. We now return you to your regularly scheduled broadcast. This has been a special presentation of the DBS network

hahaha that was funny. I own the 04 VIII, I am looking to get the IX and I will go from there. I think that Mitsubishi will build a great Evo if not there is always Skyline
or Supra ... etc. World goes on....but before it does I will ****ing curse Mitsubishi out. I will send them letter and last I will go in person and I will severely kick the owner in the nuts for all Evo lovers and true owners that love their cars.
