Lancer Evolution X News, Info, Pics, etc... | [ALL THREADS MERGED]
I agree with you EVOIXMR, the evo is meant to be a rally car. i don't know all the changes mitsu has in mind, but i hope they're justified as far as rallying. The evo is known for its functionality and for being a very capable if not beautiful car (which I think it is, but not classic beauty). I think the evo nameplate is such a godsend to mitsubishi as far as appeal and respect that they want to put it on a car that is pretty and techno savvy enough to fit in with the crowd while holding on to the power. They should leave that to the ralliart editions of the other car models. Reminds me of the tale of Icarus who flew too high on his new beautiful wings which melted and sent him to his death. I pray that doesn't happen to mitsubishi's evo. But again, I don't know all the changes that will be made and i may be over-reacting. In the end it comes down to the consumer, us on this forum who love our cars to say ye or nay.
Well, all these refinements and other stuff to appeal to its more upscale market will cost $$ and they will either have to sacrafice in other departments (performance) or the price will be going up a lot.
I forsee this thing being a $40-50K car which effectively prices it out of its current market of sport compact enthusiasts. The same happened in the early 90s when all the Japanese companies decided to start building supercars to improve image - the 300ZX, Supra, NSX, RX-7, 3000GT etc. They were nice but they were extremely complicated and were priced so high that not many people could buy it.

Many of the Classics underwent refinements, and the next thing you know you had a soft cushy POS (E-Type - XK8 , 1G-2G to the 3G-4G ugh!!! and probably a lot of others that could be mentioned)
These might be the "good ol days" guys. Enjoy what we have, for now at least.
I know I'm biased, but I think that we (Evos) are kind of the "Golden Boys" of the import tuner craze. Maybe things will continue, kind of hard to say.
I with the guy that says the VIII and IX's are beautiful. I see it.
(not leaving out the earlier ones, just trying to stick to the context of the thread)

Sound like the VIII and IX are going to be the classics. You would think Mitsubishi would have learned a lesson when sales dropped like a rock when they changed the eclipse a few years ago.

Pessimists abound on this forum. You'll be proven wrong and left in the EVO X's dust.
BTW,
for all you Newbies who are too lazy to read the posts, the full text of the "hear-say" article was posted here:

Yeah there's nothing new in it. I have that copy. Most interesting aspect was the sidebar story showing where they're built. Big flimsy looking sheds. Maybe I'll check the place out next time I'm over in that area.
