Interesting... open deck. I wonder if that will effect the amount of mods the block will take...

I think more than anything it is a packaging issue that made them move it.

The one thing that I like about having the turbo in the front is that you get some air flow across it. I don't think it will get much air behind the block.

I suspect in this case its because the engine design and other aspects are more closely shared with the upcoming replacement for the Neon also... Plus the lower hood line, and other aspects make it easier to place the turbo to the rear than packaging it in the front. I do know that its harder to access a rear mounted turbo since I did a turbo swap into my neon a few years back and it was an awkward install at the time.

It also means you can spin your motor clockwise and make the path from engine to ground less convoluted, less half shafts.

Everything I've read says the X engine is gonna be a 2.0 L turbo, which is not on the list of engines on that world engine page. I think that the X MIGHT not have the "world engine".

i was just saying you own the car thats why you are comparing it to the k20. the k20 has proven itself a capable powerplant, regardless. who knows what mitsu could have in store.

Maybe because of the 3G and 4G Eclipse?

I wouldn't hold my breath one way or the other on this issue.

an Evo in the hand is worth 2 in the bush

Just a thought.

How do you figure? It says they come in 1.8, 2.0 and 2.4L variants. N/a or forced induction.

That was a good link. More facts less speculation.

This reminds me of the 350z's vq35 vs the skylines' rb25dett debate.

Can an aluminum engine block have the strength of a cast iron engine block. Hey I'm not metallurgist but I do know aluminum is weaker than iron. Aluminum also reflects a lot of heat.

What does this mean for engine power? I'm going to guess that two identical manufacturer motors, one made of aluminum and one made of iron could be made to easily produce similar amounts of horsepower.

The car with the aluminium engine would probably out perform the cast iron car in terms of street performance due to the weight savings...

However when you talk to a crowd like ours, where many mod their cars, some to rather extreme degrees, I'd say that a cast iron engine could be modded to make far more horsepower than a similar aluminium engine.

This also suggests that the Evo X will have "evolved" out of the tuner market into a slightly higher price bracket.

Of course, its all academic, these are all just guesses...

Some of us may have to face the reality that we will never own 1000hp+ cars. Then it might be easier to accept the fact that an aluminum block's pros outweigh the cons.
