Lancer Evolution X News, Info, Pics, etc... | [ALL THREADS MERGED]
They did stick to their roots, the EVO is "evolving" even further. They've finally included all the systems that have made the Evos from the past and made them even better for the US market. Its going to put down 320-325HP, up form 286. What else do you want? Explain how it hasn't stuck to its roots? Do you want the spoiler to be bigger?
To me the car is alright!! I think its because the current Evo still impresses me after 2 years. Im sure once im able to veiw it in person it could be a differnt story.
Will have to wait and see.
If I did end up thinking about trading up, it would be for a second or 3rd year production.
As for the alluminum block, im not so sure it would be as die hard as the old 4G.
but hey, if Mitsu warrantees it for 10 year 100k Thats not so bad.

agree on the aluminum block, Mitsu does not necessary always make their car 'better'.
However, the new 2008 WRX looks promising, and not as dorky look as today, may be a serious contender to the Evo, at least I am watching for it.

If you look at my signature, I have no problem buying and selling cars...so the fact that I have a IX has nothing to do with it. I had an VIII and switched to a IX too, doesn't make me love the VIII any less. The fact of the matter is that they completely redesigned the vehicle in order to appeal to a much broader client base. The power has gone up yes, but the weight will be significantly higher also so the extra power is a must. The dual clutch automatic will be a nice feature, though aside from that I see little that screams rally-inspired car for the road and see a lot that says we've given up and want to sell this car to more people. The price tag this vehicle will carry will now put the EVO at almost 40,000 US (would you pay that for a Mitsubishi)? I just feel they're going in a different direction with the vehicle now, and despite the alphabet soup of electronic add-ons to enhance vehicle control I don't see the value that was there before for the performance or the dedicated build. For this amount, myself, as far as many other people would consider a much nicer BMW 335i. I guess I'm just sour at Mitsu. for ditching the 4g63 in favor for an aluminum block to try to save on some of the extra lbs they've added as well as completely reformatting the chasis to that of a Dodge Caliber. So please don't **** on my leg for having an opinion. I want a rally-inspired car that I can drive every day and I want to pay under $35,000 and walk out the door with the keys to that car. No longer will I be able to do that.
The Concept-X is much much more aggressive looking. These new pics are very disappointing imo. The fender flares/head&tail lights/rear valence/ front lip/ the change in the angle on the nose of the car etc etc. all took away from its appeal. The concept wasn't prefect, but I would not have made a lot of these changes. Obviously concepts are always extra outlandish, but I guess my standards were just set too high by it.

Look how many chassis codes the Evo has been through during the years.

Six, and the Evo X will be the seventh. Do you think people said the same thing about the previous Evos. More than likely. But time has proven that each Evo has become better than the last. I don’t think it will be any different this time.
I understand where you are coming from about the chassis though. This was the last collaboration between Daimler Chrysler before they splt. though, Mitsubishi had a lot of input on the Lancer and Evo chassis. Just don’t think that this is some, hand me down. The same goes for the engine. Do you really think that they are not going to put in some buffer? Isn't the WRX and STi engine aluminum?
The 4G63 has been around for more than a dozen years. Maybe mitsu thought it was time for a change. What if adding in an aluminum engine allows for a nearly perfect 50/50 weight distribution? I’d take that over a cast iron block. The Evo X may weigh just 200lbs more than the Evo IX, but it can make up for that with more power from the engine.
Only time will tell.

My concern is that the new Evo will be an outstanding car from the manufacturer. However, it may not be as good from an aftermarket perspective. Good luck building an aluminum block to withstand the abuse that the current 4g63 block will take. Imagine trying to tune on this platform. If the car has electronic aids for steering, braking, driveline, etc. what will happen if you modify one component of the car or another? Will it screw with the other sensors? Also, active suspension may mean that you won't be able to switch out suspension components.
I like the design of the new car and the current interior sucks in comparison. But the new car just isn't edgy or raw enough for me. It just doesn't look like an Evo. I bought my IX for canyons, track days, and the ability to mod the hell out of it. If I wanted to look pretty, be comfortable, and have the electronics do all of the driving I would have bought a BMW, Mercedes, or Audi.
I'm liking the front end now, I was wondering why I hated it before
It's because the 1st one I saw on the automobilemag page had the middle parted painted and without the vents. That's a regular Lancer that they mistakenly put on the X page!
